HOW TO CREATE A WALK CYCLE

IN FLASH

On one layer create shapes for your figure. These shapes resemble
the bones of the human figure involved in the walk movement.

Group each individual shape by selecting and Control G. Once each


shape has been grouped, put the figure together.

Select all and convert to a movie clip symbol.

Double click on the movie clip symbol to bring up


the movie clip timeline.

The movie clip timeline is separate from the scene


timeline. It is nested within the scene.

Insert a keyframe on frame 5. Select the foot and calf with the selection tool.
Once selected, choose the transform tool to rotate the leg. Be sure to move
the rotation point to the knee joint.
Go to frame 5 and insert a keyframe.

of a walk cycle.

Insert another keyframe on frame 10. Remember to first select with the
selection tool(V) and then with the transform tool(Q) rotate the arms and
legs to create a lifelike walk cycle. Be sure to place the rotation point at the
joint. You may use your arrow keys to position extremities between moves.
Remember to right click and choose arrange to bring object to the front or
back if necessary.

Tips and tricks to your walkcycle:


Move between the selection tool(V) and transform

tool(Q) by using the keyboard shortcuts.


Hold down shift while using the selection tool to
select more than one group.
Move the rotation point to the joint.
Use your keyboard arrows to move objects.
Slow down or speed up your walk cycle by adding or
cutting frames.
Use onion skinning to view the previous keyframe.

Once you have completed your walk cycle, go back to scene one.

On frame 1, place the symbol just off the stage.

Insert a keyframe in frame 30

Move the symbol just off the other side of the stage.
Create a motion tween
Control/Enter to view your animated walk cycle.
