Describe a minor character/person in the book who had major importance. Explain
Jimmy Cross is a first lieutenant and in charge of the men. He is a man that is in love
with a women named Martha and the two of them would write back and forth to each other.
His mind was always on her even through the hardest times of the war. He is a man that blames
himself for the deaths of two great men, Ted lavender and Kiowa.
Authors Purpose:
The authors purpose is to use Jimmy Cross to represent the effects responsibility has on those
who don't truly know how to handle it at time.
Intended Audience:
Those who are interested in the Vietnam War
