21. NEFT (National Electronic Fund Transfer): NEFT enables funds transfer from one bank to another but works a bit differently
than RTGS. NEFT is slower than RTGS. The transfer is not direct and RBI acts as the service provider to transfer the money from
one account to another. You can transfer any amount through NEFT, even a rupee.
22. RTGS (Real time gross settlement ): RTGS system is funds transfer systems where transfer of money or securities takes place
from one bank to another on a "real time" and on "gross" basis.
Settlement in "real time" means payment transaction is not subjected to any waiting period. The transactions are settled as soon
as they are processed. Minimum & Maximum Limit of RTGS: 2 lakh and no upper limit.
23. BOND: Publicly traded ling term debt securities issued by corporations and governments, whereby the issuer agrees to pay a
fixed amount of interest over a specified period of time and to repay a fixed amount of principal maturity.
24. Call Money: Call Money is the borrowing or lending of funds for 1day.
25. Notice Money: Money borrowed or lend for period between 2 days and 14 days it is known as Notice Money
26. Term Money: Term Money refers to borrowing/lending of funds for period exceeding 14 days
27. CRAR(Capital to Risk Weighted Assets Ratio): Capital to risk weighted assets ratio is arrived at by dividing the capital of the
bank with aggregated risk weighted assets for credit risk, market risk and operational risk.
28. Non Performing Assets (NPA): An asset, including a leased asset, becomes non performing when it ceases to generate income
for the bank.
29. INFLATION: inflation is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time. When the
general price level rises, each unit of currency buys fewer goods and services. Consequently, inflation reflects a reduction in
the purchasing power per unit of money a loss of real value in the medium of exchange and unit of account within the
economy.

Reserve Bank of India reduced free usage of other bank automated teller machines (ATMs) to 3 per month from
5: Frequent withdrawal of money from ATMs will become expensive from November, with the RBI imposing a limit of 3
transactions per month from ATMs of other banks and 5 from the same bank in six metropolitan cities.
Note: A customer will be required to pay a fee of up to Rs 20 for using Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) beyond the
permitted numbers of transactions in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
RBI issues guidelines for NBFCs on lending against shares.
Note: According to the guidelines applicable to NBFCs with asset size of Rs. 100 crore and above, the NBFCs have
to maintain a loan-to-value (of shares pledged) of 50 per cent and accept only Group 1 securities as collateral for
loans of a value more than Rs. 5 lakh.
RBI projects 5.5 % GDP growth during current fiscal.
RBI has notified the increase in deposit money under Public
Provident Fund, PPF to 1.5 lakh rupees from 1 lakh rupees.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued draft guidelines for
implementation of Bharat Bill Payment System (BPPS),
an 'anytime anywhere' bill payment system:
The G. Padmanabhan Committee was formed by RBI to study
the Feasibility of Implementation of GIRO-based Payment Systems anticipated that around 30800 million bills amounting
to more than 600000 crore rupees are paid each year in 20 Indian cities.
Note: i. Bharat Bill Payment System is intended for the implementation of a unified bill payment system across the
country.
This integrated bill payment system will comprise of two entities:
i. Entity operating at Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) will be setting up the standards related to payments, clearance
and settlement process
ii. Second entity would be Bharat Bill Payment Operating Units (BBPOUs). It will be carrying out the operations in
adherence to the standards fixed by BBPS.
iii. Authorised entities such as agents, banks, service providers, payment gateways would be the participants at the Bharat
Bill Payment System.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently issued draft guidelines for two new categories of bankssmall and payments and
states that these can improve financial inclusion.
Note: i. The idea of payments banks was first proposed by the Nachiket Mor committee on financial inclusion.
ii. The minimum paid-up capital requirement of both payments banks and small banks is Rs. 100 crore. The payments
bank will have to invest in government securities with a maturity of up to one year.
Important Points:
i. Small banks will offer both deposits as well as loan products.
ii. Payments banks will be used only for transaction purposes and for deposits. Unlike small banks, payments banks cant
lend money to people.

The Rangarajan Committee was set up last year to review the Tendulkar Committee methodology for estimating poverty
and clear the ambiguity over the number of poor in the country.
14. Exim Bank has extended USD 46 million line of credit to Mauritius for financing goods and defence related vehicles
purchases.
15. World Bank has signed an agreement with the government to provide a loan assistance of USD 1,006.20 million for Sarva
Shiksha Abhiyan III, which is the largest ongoing "Education for All" programme in the world.
16. FICCI and IDBI signed an MoU for easy access to organised finance facility at competitive interest rates for micro, small
and medium enterprise (MSME).
17. India recently launched its own payment gateway 'RuPay', equivalent of Visa and Mastercard, which will work on ATMs
and merchant outlets and help in reducing cash transactions.
Note: i. RuPay, which works on three channels -- ATMs, Point of Sales (POS) and online sales, is the seventh such payment
gateway in the world.
ii. The RuPay platform -- developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)-- is being used by certain banks like
ICICI, State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, among others, for clearing and settlement.
18. India became third-largest economy in 2011 from 10th in 2005: World Bank.
19. World Bank will provide $500 million loan for water supply and sanitation projects in the rural areas of Assam, Bihar,
Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
20. World Bank will provide 50 million dollar assistance to Afghanistan to support the government's efforts to improve
access to credit for micro, small and medium enterprises.

ORIGIN: The Committee to Review the Arrangements for Institutional Credit
for Agriculture and Rural Development (CRAFICARD) set up by Reserve Bank
of India in 1979 recommended formation of NATIONAL BANK FOR AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (NABARD)
as a new organisational device for providing undivided attention, forceful direction and pointed focus to the credit problems
arising out of integrated rural development.
National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) was established on 12 July
1982 by an Act of the Parliament
MANDATE: NABARD was set up as a Development Bank with a mandate for providing and regulating credit and other facilities
for the promotion and development of agriculture, small scale industries, cottage and village industries, handicrafts and other
rural crafts and other allied economic activities in rural areas with a view to promoting integrated rural development and
securing prosperity of rural areas, and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
CORPORATE MISSION: Promote sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural prosperity through effective credit support,
related services, institution development and other innovative initiatives.
CAPITAL STRUCTURE: The paid up capital of NABARD is Rs.2,000 crore with Government of India (GoI) holding Rs.1,980
crore and the remaining by Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
ORGANISATIONAL SETUP: NABARD, with its Head Office at Mumbai, has 30 Regional Offices located in States and a Union
Territory.

21. Union Cabinet approved the Juvenile Justice Bill, 2014 to amend the
Juvenile Justice Act, 2000
Note: Age of a Juvenile in the JJ Bill, 2014: The bill will treat
minors above the age of 16 as adults, who are accused of heinous
crimes like rape and murder. The JJ Act, 2000 treats any person
below the age of 18 as juvenile.
Note: The Provision for Children in conflict zones and Corporal
punishment in the JJ Bill, 2014: The Bill proposes up to seven
year rigorous imprisonment, 5 lakh rupees fine or both for
militant groups who recruit child soldiers or use children for any
purpose.
Note: If the Bill is passed in Parliament, India will join 40 other
countries where corporal punishment is a penal offence.
22. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a declaration that bans
imports of agricultural products from all countries that have
imposed sanctions on Russia over the crisis in Ukraine. Major
sanctions were made by the US and EU.
23. Lok Sabha passes Securities Laws (Amendment) Bill: A Bill to
enhance the powers of market regulator SEBI to curb the menace of
Ponzi schemes and protect investors from fraudulent diversion of
monies raised from them was passed by Lok Sabha
24. Doordarshan signs pact with German channel: In an effort to
distribute its content to international markets, DD India has signed
an agreement with German public service broadcaster Deutsche
Welle (DW). This agreement will help Indias public broadcaster get
a global footprint with its programmes becoming part of the Free-toAir basic pack on a DTH platform.

57. Lithuania to become 19th country to adopt Euro as currency from 1 January 2015. It will become the 19th member of the
euro zone out of 28 countries in the European Union, and the last of the Baltic states to join.

MOUs-Deal between India & Other Countries
1. India and Czech Republic signed MoU on technical cooperation in Railway.
2. India to give grant of $1 million for construction of cricket stadium in Afghanistan. The stadium is set to come up in
Aino Mina, a northern suburb of Kandahar city on land donated to the Afghanistan Cricket Board in 2012.
3. India and Nepal have agreed to build a pipeline for supply of petroleum products to the Himalayan nation.
Note: The project for construction of the pipeline will start from Raxual in Bihar to Amlekhganj in Nepal in the first
phase and extend it to Kathmandu in the next phase.
4. India and Nepal ink 3 pacts including one on the 5,600 MW Pancheshwar dam on the Mahakali river.
Note: The project falls under the integrated treaty on Mahakali River, bordering both Nepal and India, which was signed in
1996.

IGNOAPS: Indira Gandhi National Old age Pension Scheme
This Scheme is for the people who aged above 65 years.
The amount of Rs. 400 per month (Central govt + State govt = Rs. 200 + Rs. 200) will be provided by both Central
government and State government who aged between 65 80 years.
Rs. 500 per month (Central govt + State govt = Rs. 250 + Rs. 250) for the people who aged more than 80 years.
IGNWPS: Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme
The beneficiary is in between age group of 40-64 years in this scheme.
Assistance of Rs. 400 per month (Central govt + State govt = Rs. 200 + Rs. 200) will be given to particular person.

9. World Food Prize 2014: India-born plant scientist Sanjaya Rajaram has been named the winner of the World Food Prize
for his breakthrough achievement in increasing global wheat production by more than 200 million tonnes following the
Green Revolution.
10. Moortidevi Award 2013: C Radhakrishnan selected for Moortidevi Award 2013. He has been selected for his
novel Theekkadal Katanhu Thirumadhuram.

21. Goldman Prize for environmental activist Ramesh Agrawal. He received the prize for helping villagers fight coal mining

23. Golden Peacock Awards 2014: Technopark Technology Business Incubator (T-TBI) was chosen for the Special

24. Bharat Ratna Award: Sachin Tendulkar and CN Rao conferred Bharat Ratna Award 2013.
Note: Tendulkar is the first sportsman and the youngest recipient of the the Bharat Ratna

25. Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2013: Veteran poet and film lyricist Gulzar has been chosen for the coveted Dadasaheb

26. Pulitzer Prize 2014: India-born poet Vijay Seshadri has won the prestigious 2014 Pulitzer Prize in the poetry category
for his work '3 Sections'.

2014 Commonwealth Games: The 2014 Commonwealth Games (officially the XX Commonwealth Games) were held in
Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 3 August 2014. This is the 20th edition of the Commonwealth Games.
Scotland has previously hosted the event twice, in 1970 and 1986, both in Edinburgh.
Note: The first was hosted by Hamilton, Canada, in 1930 and known as the British Empire Games.
England finished top of the medal table for the first time since the 1986 Commonwealth Games, also held in Scotland.
Kiribati also won its first ever medal at a Commonwealth Games, a gold in the 105 kg men's weightlifting competition.
There are 71 participating nations at the 2014 Commonwealth Games with approximately 4,950 competing athletes, making it
one of the largest Commonwealth Games staged to date.
Mascot: Clyde, an anthropomorphic thistle named after the river which flows through the centre of Glasgow, was the official
mascot of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The mascot was designed by Beth Gilmour, who won a competition run by Glasgow
2014 for children to design the Mascot.
