Cellular Respiration

How ALL organism get ATP to use

as energy in their cells

Im already confused
Q: SoWhat is cellular respiration?
The process of turning glucose (a type of
sugar) into energy (ATPs)

Location, LocationLocation
Q: So where does cellular respiration take
place?
IN EVERY CELL ALIVE!!!!!!
It begins in the cytoplasm
It finishes in the mitochondria

WHAT YOU NEED!!

Q: So what does cellular respiration need?
Aerobic Cellular Respiration needs 2
things:
OXYGEN (O2) & GLUCOSE (C6H12O6)
Anaerobic Cellular Respiration needs only:
GLUCOSE (C6H12O6)

Huh Aero.?!?!
Q: Whats this Aerobic and Anaerobic
business?
Aero = with oxygen
Anaero = without oxygen
Most living things can create ATPs with or
without oxygen. But, aerobic is done
most often because it produces the most
ATP!!!

Wait!!!! I cant live without

Oxygen!!!!!!!!
Q: Stop lying, how do I live without any
oxygen!!!
For short periods of time your cells can
create ATP without any oxygen.butyou
make lactic acid which causes cramping,
fatigue and pain!

WHAT YOU GET!!!

Q: So what does cellular respiration make?
Aerobic Cellular Respiration makes 3 things:
Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Water (H20) and ATPs

Anaerobic Cellular Respiration makes 2 things:

ATPs and some byproduct

(like lactic acid or ethanol.yeast/bacteria)

PUT IT ALL TOGETHER

Q: So whats the chemical equation do I
need to know?
You only need to be able to use the
equation for Aerobic Respiration:
6O2 + C6H12O6 6CO2 + 6H20 + 36 ATPs
Oxygen

Glucose

Carbon Dioxide

Water

Energy
