Volume 24
Semester 2 has seen the
introduction of new units of
work and other curriculum
developments including:

Animation
Authors in the making! Year
9 IT students studied a new
Animation
unit
this
semester using Macromedia
Flash. The skills developed
using this industry standard
software were impressive.
Students
showed
their
creative talents producing
multimedia
childrens
storybooks
which
incorporated
graphics,
animation and sound.

IT Careers
Do IT jobs consist of sitting
in front of computer screens
all day in an office? Is IT
only for nerds? These are
some of the misconceptions
looked at by Year 10 IT

students while completing
an assignment for the Web
Production unit. Students
formed project teams to
research IT careers and
interview people in the IT
industry. The results were
displayed in a website.
Students found that IT Jobs
varied and some were very
people orientated.

Whats in the box?

Ever wondered what was


inside
a
computer?
Computer
Operations
students are the first to use
the new computer hardware
lab
this
semester.
Computers form the main
labs three years ago are
being broken down by the
students and reassembled
and reconfigured. Students
have learnt to install CDROM drives, add extra
memory
and
network
computers together to allow
the sharing of printers and
disk
space.
Students
produced electronic journals
including digital photos
which document their work

Computer Games
Do you get to play computer

games if you study IT? The


answer is yes, but you do
have to write them yourself!
The Major Minor IT
students
designed
and
programmed variations of
the board game, Snakes and
Ladders, using Visual Basic.
The
girls
not
only
demonstrated
their
programming skills but also

created original graphics in


Photoshop. Themes for the
games included Frogs and
Slime, Rockets and Black
Holes and The Matrix.
