Instruction Sheet For Case 2
This sheet will help you at each individual station! Just rememberstay with your
group, do not be afraid to ask questions or ask for help, be safe, follow the
instructions, and most of all, have fun!
Elephant Toothpaste
*WEAR YOUR SAFETY GOGGLES WHILE COMPLETING THIS EXPERIEMENT!*
1. You should have a tray, funnel, empty plastic bottle, plastic cup, food coloring, dish soap,
warm water, yeast, and hydrogen peroxide at your station. If you do not have all of these items,
tell one of your college mentors!
2. This is when you need to put on your safety goggles!
3. First, you want to pour cup of hydrogen peroxide into the plastic bottle. Have one of your
college mentors help you with that part!
4. Add 8 drops of your favorite food coloring into the bottle.
5. Add about 1 tablespoon of the liquid dish soap to your bottle.
6. Carefully put the lid on the bottle and lightly swish the bottle to mix up your ingredients.
7. Now take the cup provided and add 3 tablespoons of warm water and 2 teaspoons of yeast
(one packet!).
8. Now your adventure starts! Take the lid off the bottle and place the funnel on the top of the
bottle.
9. CAREFULLY pour the yeast and water mixture into the bottle with the help of the funnel.
(DO NOT LEAN OVER THE BOTTLE!!)
10. Take a few steps back and watch the foaminess begin!!
11. While its happening, talk to your peers about whats happening and what you think made it
happen!

1. Make sure you have cleaning supplies, cornstarch, water, food coloring, plastic gloves, mixing
bowl, and container all on your table at your station. If you are missing something, notify one
of your college mentors.
2. You will get a little messy with this experiment, so if you want to wear the plastic gloves
provided, put them on now!
3. Take the large mixing bowl and add 16 ounces of cornstarch.
4. Then add the cup of water
5. Then put 3 drops of food coloring into the mixture.
6. This is where it gets messy! Begin mixing it all together with your hands.
7. Play and experiment! Make sure you feel it, punch it (lightly!), and pour it.
8. Discuss with your peers about what is happening and why you think it is the way it is.
9. Clean up! Start by cleaning yourself up first and then clean up your station with the supplies
provided.
10. Make sure the station is ready for the next group of students!
