of Australias changing policies on Asylum Seekers



In Pairs you are going to review the Asylum Seeker policies of the Australian Governments since
1976.
Starting with Malcolm Fraser, Bob Hawke, Paul Keating, Rudd/Gillard, then, Tony Abbott.
Using the questions below, design a factsheet that maps the progression of Australias Policy on
Asylum Seekers.
Your organization
Go to student caf and download all resources into separate folders within a new folder labeled
Asylum Seeker, i.e. folder named Fraser, Hawke, etc. inside the main folder

Questions to be addressed regarding asylum seekers
1. State the year, prime minister and which government was in power
2. The response of the Prime Ministers and their governments to asylum seekers in terms
of legislation and state the name of the policy.
3. How were asylum seekers processed?
4. Where were asylum seekers processed?
5. How was this different to previous governments?
6. State the numbers of arrivals during the period of government
7. Evaluate whether you believe it was an effective policy and why? You should include the
costs of the programme into you evaluation.
8. Which policies are within the legal framework of Human Rights declaration
9. Add any images of the time that you think are relevant
10. Were the any positives that came from the policies of the day..any notable Australians as
example.
