Re: 2014 Geriatric Medicine Self Study Package

I would like to provide you some background and time line for the Geriatric Medicine Self Study Package since this is the
first to be updated.
Background
The mission of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is to improve the health of patients, families and
communities by serving the needs of members with professionalism and creativity.
One method for achieving this mission is to provide high-quality, innovative education for physicians, residents and
medical students that will encompass the art, science, evidence and socio-economics of family medicine and to support
the pursuit of lifelong learning.
The Curriculum Review and Update Plan serves two critical purposes. Primarily, it ensures that all curricula are reviewed
and updated on a regular basis. Second, it identifies the status of the general program at any point in time.
The curriculum revision follows a cyclic order that is partially prescribed by the 3-year accreditation currently in use for
the AAFP Self-Study packages. By recording on a two year rotation we can be assured of having the new package ready
for accreditation and distribution within the 3-year window.
In this report, I have provide the time line developed for this project and the action taken to date. Weekly updates will
also be provided throughout this process until its completion.
Purpose of Self Study Packages
As family physicians provide care for patients from the beginning to end of their lives, they may be asked to provide
family members with counseling and resources to manage the elderly patients caregiving. In some cases, they may also
be needed to provide palliative or end-of-life care for some of their elderly patients. As such, it is imperative that family

recommendations to ensure they have the necessary resources/support in approaching end-of-life issues.
Time line for the 2014 Geriatric Medicine Package
For the purpose of keeping everyone involved and aware of their responsibilities, I have created the time line below.

The Completion date for this project and inventory available to sell is December 1, 2014.
As you will note, the editing of presentations and communication of any queries with the authors has started. My goal is
to schedule meetings as needed with all team members to ensure this project runs smoothly and is completed on time.
This time line can be found at S:/Cmeprod/2014 Geriatric Medicine/Self Study Package. I have requested team
members to update time line when task are completed.
In conclusion, Self Study Packages are one of the valuable resources the AAFP provides its members, I am happy lead
this team and project from conception to completion. At any time, please do not hesitate to contact me either by email:
