presented on a two-page spread with geographic location and age included with illustrations,
then 1-3 clearly written paragraphs on why the tree is a celebrity.
Mood: The mood in Celebritrees is one of wonder, you really have no idea what is coming on
the next page but because the writing and illustrations are done so well youre intrigued to see
not only what the next tree looks like, but what makes it special.

Describe Characteristics of this text specific to the genre:
Purpose: This book was designed with the purpose of educating youth on how important
something we take for granted can be. Trees are cut down, and walked past everyday but they
have a lot of history to them. This book shows the importance of some of them through fact and
legend.
Size Relationships: With the pictures in the book being illustrations of real trees, size
relationships are very important. For example the tree of one hundred horses, said to be the
widest tree in the world has to be illustrated in a way that makes it clear how big it is. And the
illustrator does a good job with this.
Total Format: The total format of the book, having the 14 trees each have their own 2 page
layout was very effective for the purposes of this book.
Reflections: (What are your impressions? Connections to past or future plans? Insights?, etc.)

I enjoyed Celebritrees for more than its cool name. It is a very interesting, and cool twist on a
pretty boring topic if its just titled, trees. This would be a great book to teach for Arbor day, also
you could have it be a starting point for a mini-research project where the students designed one
of these trees somehow or something like that. A very useful book that Ill have in my library.
