Happenings this week

Second quarter begins this week!!!

I will be discussing a new homework
policy with the students and sending
home the information to the parents.
Please see the e-mail sent.
Please set aside November 24th 11:00 to
have lunch with us. We will be having a
potluck and parents are invited. Each
student is asked to bring a dish from their
culture or family traditions.
Popcorn Friday sponsored by the PTO.
Students may bring in fifty cents to
purchase popcorn.
Please continue to send in cents for
Sigonella for special events at school.

Math

We will finish Topic 5, which deals

with more complicated, including double digit
dividends. We will have the Topic 5 test on
double digit division on Thursday. I took an
extra day to practice the long division. It is
essential that you have your child practice
their multiplication facts, which will assist
them with the math. Please see Student
Resources in the Weebly for math sites to
practice multiplication. We are working with
our time tests and I have told the students
that once they pass their multiplication facts,

Social Studies-

We will be
covering Columbus travels to the
Americas. Another topic will be the
Columbian Exchange involving the
exchange of goods between the Americas
and Europe. Next we will talk about the
Spanish conquistadors who came to the
Americas to settle colonies and explore
new places.

Reading / LA:

Each child should be

reading nightly as part of homework.
Students need to take 8 Reading Counts
Quizzes for part of their reading grade or read
200,000 words.

Strategy- Story Structure

Vocabulary words for the week: permit,

subject, worthless, scoundrel, and
admiringly.
This week I will meet with the The Long
Walk Groups and The Girl who Chased
Away Sorrow Group on Friday and the
Racing the Sun Group on Thursday. They
should come with their assignments
completed.

Science-We will be taking the test on
Ecosystems on Monday, November 17th.
