Using mud balance

1. The drilling mud was stirred with a mixer for one minute.
2. The lid was removed and the cup was filled with water based mud inside the mud balance.
3. The lid was placed back on the cup of mud balance and rotated it until the mud overflow. The
squeezed mud out the vent hole from the exterior of the cup was wiped clean.
4. The balance with the knife edge was placed on the fulcrum of the base.
5. The rider was moved until the arm stabilized horizontally as determined by the spirit level (until
the bubble is at the centre )
6. The reading on the edge of the rider towards the fulcrum was recorded.
7. Then, the step 1-6 was repeated by using oil based mud.
8. The mud balance was cleaned by using tissue and water.

Using hydrometer
1. The drilling mud was stirred with a mixer for one minute.
2. The water based mud was placed in a long measuring cylinder (500 mL).
3. The hydrometer was dropped inside the measuring cylinder.
4. The condition of the hydrometer was observed and the reading in the hydrometer was
taken.
