The sterling hallmark of this campus is the OCTAGON
Computer Center. This
serves the campus-wide LAN in close association with the user departments.
LAN caters to totally 4000 users across the campus (1600 users at the same
) and has a 10 Gbps fiber optic backbone. It also acts as a resource centre
upplement classroom instructions with laboratory sessions.

The OCTAGON & Annex building accommodates the central computing facilities, it h
as a server room with 25 high-end servers and there are 7 laboratories, 5 labs i
n Octagon building and 2 labs in the Annex building with totally 400 high-end co
mputers.
It has a Printer room equipped with four high-speed A4 and A3 Network Laser Prin
ters (Mono and Color) which can print upto 50 pages per minute (PPM); a Library
for software and manuals; Conference and Seminar facilities; a CAD/CAM Centre wi
th 22 high-end workstations and an in-house maintenance facilities.
The centre is maintained by the Computer Support Group (CSG).
Octagon is kept open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, throughout the year, also ha
s centralized 2 x 60 kVA redundant Uninterrupted Power Supply with 200 kVA stand
by Power Generators and Central Air Conditioning.
NITT is connected to the Internet via 45 Mbps (1:1) leased line from Software Te
chnology Park of India (STPi) and via 100 Mbps leased line from Bharat Sanchar N
igam Ltd (BSNL) under National Mission on Education through Information & Commun
ication Technology (NME-ICT). Currently work is in progress for providing 1Gbps
connectivity by National Informatics Centre (NIC) using Railnet as a part of Nat
ional Knowledge Network (NKN).
