SURGE PROTECTOR TESTER

This voltage is measured and shown on the digital
display.
The output of the tester is current limited so that it
will not cause any damage to the components
being tested.

The surge protecting components in Novaris surge

protectors are generously rated to ensure a long
lifetime. However, eventually surge protecting
components will degrade or fail completely due to
a surge in excess of its rating.
Most Novaris surge protectors feature indicating
circuits and external alarms to ensure the user is
aware of any fault that may occur. Some
protectors do not, and in order to be sure that the
surge protecting components are still in good
working order, these protectors should be tested
periodically.

Testing
The Novaris SPT-1 is a compact, easy-to-use
surge protector tester. Tests are performed by
simply connecting the tester to the equipment
under test, pushing the test button, and then
reading the digital display.
The digital display shows the voltage at which the
equipment under test clamps. This allows
identification not only of faulty components, but
also of partially damaged components.

Operation
The SPT-1 has an open-circuit output voltage of
600V DC. When applied to a surge protecting
component, this voltage is limited to the clamping
voltage of that component.
