BRIEFING ON LAB ACTIVITIES MODULE

CASE STUDY
Most people tend to open tap to the
maximum water flow while taking their
ablution (wudhu). This causes water
wastage in mosque and surau. However,
the used water can be recycled and treated
to be use for the same application and
others too.

Conduct study
investigation on water
consumption in one
location where water is
used for ablution purpose.

Preliminary Study:
10 groups of students

Each group will draw a location where

their preliminary study will be conducted
at.

Time period given for the study: 2 weeks.

Must take data for 7 dierent days within

that 2 weeks period.

Data including: number of people in the

location at one time, water consumption
etc

Data Analysis:
EACH GROUP MUST ANALYSE THE DATA OBTAINED
FROM THE PRELIMINARY STUDY CONDUCTED.
DATA CAN BE ANALYSE AS SUCH:
WATER CHARACTERISATION*
WATER CONSUMPTION (VOLUME USED, VOLUME
WASTED)
HEAD COUNT (NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN THE
LOCATION AT ONE TIME)
HEAD COUNT VS VOLUME USED/WASTED
USAGE PER PERSON
COMPARISON BETWEEN GENDER IN WATER
USAGE

*Water Characterisation is Water Quality Testing

Water Quality Testing:

Chemical Oxygen Demand

Biochemical Oxygen Demand

Suspended Solid

Turbidity

Color

Chlorine

Water Treatment Proposal:

Each group must come up with a
water treatment method(s)

Feel free to ask lecturers, tutors,

lab technicians and/or seniors for
suggestions

Must read and research about the

method that will be propose - find
relevance to your study location

Presentation and Report :

With data from study conducted and
proposed water treatment method,
each group must prepare a poster
presentation to convey their findings

The poster shall be in A3 size (unless

stated otherwise in later time) and
contain all necessary contents

A full journal report must be

submitted before the Lab Test.
