1. This River Basin area has hundreds of hiking or biking trails for recreational use. This trails allow
people to witness the true beauty of this river basin. Allowing people to witness this river basin
allows people to respect it and want to conserve it.
2. Padding is also a huge service that is used by the public. There are thousands or waterways in
the Tar-Pamlico River Basin that paddler enthusiast can explore in their kayaks or canoes.
Paddling is a way to experience nature up and close because it is relatively quiet and you can
sneak up on wildlife.

Human Impacts on the River Basin


Runoff from farms has increased the nitrogen and phosphorus in the river basin that then
increases the growth of algae that depletes oxygen in the river basin. Many dead fish have been
found in the river basin because of this. Point source dischargers have also been releasing
harmful waste water into the river basin. This point source dischargers are affecting the plant
and animal life in the water. The state is trying to limit these problems to save this river basin.
