Directions of Research
Initially, Ryan and I were going to talk specifically about major wars and how the
evolution of weapons were used to conquer the battlefield. However, after long discussion, we
came to the conclusion that Ryan would talk about the evolution of weapons used throughout the
wars and I would talk about the different battle tactics that were used in different wars. I would
also explain why these certain battle formations won ot lost the wars.
Completing the research, I found it very interesting how since the inyeftion of airplanes,
many wars changed from specifically fighting on the ground to having tyfo separate wars: one
that was fought on the ground in the trenches and woods, and one infhe clouds. I also found that
fighting in the French and Indian War. _
1 feel that at the beginning of this project we wanted to look at specifically wars that were
fought on American soil; however, we branched out our ideas to any wars or armies that had a
strong significance in the evolution of weapons and military strategy. For instance, the Roman
army was recognized in our project because they used the famous battle formation called “The2 ¢ Smith 2
Turtle” where the soldiers worked as a team to protect themselves by putting their shields up in a
shell like formation. This formation led to the discovery of many other formations, some of
which we still use today. L cot
