Ryan Dickey and isaac Smith Professor Lynn Raymond ‘UwRT 1103-£03 28 September 2014 Proposal for Multimodal Project For the semester long project, Ryan and | will be discussing the evolution of weapons and how they were used in wars. Specifically, we will be talking about the evolution of rifles and pistols and how they were key parts to winning conflicts and wars. We will aso talk about the evolution of bullets since they go along with the guns and formations of war because guns are useless without a coherent plan to effectively use them. For our modes of representation, we will use the Linguistics and Visual m« -as Prezi for the slide show and also show videos to further our explanation of how the weépons evolved. ‘Also, during this presentation we will mostly be focusing on American battle stratgafes and weaponry considering this is where we come from and interests us most. We plan on designing the project by making a timeline of the different wars and which weapons ‘were most prominent in that specific war. During Ryan's part of the pfesentation, he will be discussing in detail about how a specific gun or modification led to a drasth for the weapon hadn't been made. After the timeline, | will tal Gentleman’ Fight formation and the Guerilla Warfare. | will show a humorous video from an acting, group called “The Whitest Kids U Know” about the formation of war. Then, I'd show a video about the evolution of guns with Saving Private Ryan. With the Prezi slideshow, each slide will show the war and ‘the weapon mostly used in that war. We will integrate our research with videos, images, etc. We will talk about the following wars: American Revolution, Civil War, WWI, WWII, and Vietnam. ur project plan is appropriate and effective for our project idea because the Prezi will give an accurate timeline of a gun as it goes from slide to slide. We believe that using a slideshow as a timeline will show how the weapons evolve and how the formations of war evolve as well. Also, the slides represent a specific point in a guns or formations evolution giving it a better context to wher and where the gun or formation originated We will mainly focus on the evolution of American wars, however we will start with medieval times which began in Europe considering the invention of the cannomt led to the topple of British castles and started an arms race for whoever could make a bigger bang. The World Wars are focused in Europe, but we will look at them because America was involved. For the research, Ryan and | will go to the library and look at credible sources such as websites (Not Wikipedia) and books that are relatable in the library. For splitting up the project, one person will focus on the weapons side of the project andthe other will focus on the war formations side. Splitting up these two ideas will give us a more focused research to do and will allow us to collaborate and ask each other for ideas to tie each topic together. To make sure that we are ready, Ryan and | will have a checkup on October 29" which is halfway between now and when it is due. At that point we will turn in our bullet points for what the project will include on the slides. On the research days, we will work together to find the needed sources. To make sure the project is flowing with ease, we will make sure to look at each other's side of the project. On presentation day, we will split up the presentation into two segments, each about seven and a half ‘minutes. One will focus on weapons, the other will be the formations of war. We will also, during the presentation, try to spring board off each other and try to keep the project engaging. WP, D
