Battle Tactics of the Civil War? Civil War History 35.4 (1989): n. pag. Print,
(Battle Tactics of the’ Civil War.”)
This source addresses the different types of battle tactics used in the Civil War. I do not think it
was useful because it sounded like a book review talking about what actually happened during
the war in the eyes of an American historian compared to a non-American historian. It was,
however, helpful in describing the different strategies used in the Civil War.

This source will help my project because it talks about many interesting things about the
guerrilla warfare fighting strategy. I will use this source in my paper because it will help further
explain how this tactic was used in wars like the revolutionary war and Vietnam. “During the
Revolutionary War, the guerrilla legacy was reflected in Col. Ethan Allen's capture of
Ticonderoga (1775).” This article explains how guerrilla warfare was used to win battles.

shing ceThis source helps explain how the gentlemen’s war tactic was not the best way to fight. “It is
almost ridiculous that two armies would face one another at less than a Hundred yards in tight
formations, three ranks deep, firing volley after volley.” This shows that when Washington took
the idea of guerrilla warfare, that was how the continental army won the battles and therefore the '

This source was useful in explaining how different strategies were used in the civil war such as
flanking, or getting behind the enemy and shooting on both sides. However, I will not use this
source because I have already inicorporated a video, and two videos would nét give enough time
to cover the needed material.

This book source was very useful in describing the necessary. changes that needed to be made in
the Confederate battle tactics. This book introduced the idea of dragoons, or military horsemen.
“{Cooke} suggested that the attackers trot to within 200 paces of the enemy line then gallop
“with increasing speed” and charge when 50 to 60 yards of the enemy's line.” This will be useful
in describing what the opposing sides of the Civil war used to win certain battles. A weakness
was there wasn’t a picture to fully explain what the author was talking about,

This article is useful in showing the different times in the Revolutionary War. “Open fighting
began with the actions at Lexington and Concord (19 April 1775), followed by American militia
besieging the British garrison in Boston.” I can use this information to show the differentdates/battles in the wars and how the battles were won or lost. This magazine article will help
further my explanation of battle tactics used in history.

‘The part of the book I used was based on the platoon firing. “Platoon firing was usually
performed when the battalion was deployed in three ranks.” This helped me understand that war
tactics were so detailed they talked about who was to fire at a certain moment and how many
seconds after one platoon fired that another platoon fired. I will use this source to help discuss
how the different wars used very detailed war tactics to win wars.

This source is a YouTube video that mimics the gentlemen’ war tactic used in the
Revolutionary War. I will use this source because it shows how ridiculous the concept of acting
like sitting ducks waiting to be shot was. This video will provide a comedic source that can add
to the understanding of why this battle tactic was unsuccessful.

‘This source will help introduce the tactics used in the Roman era. “The tortoise was an
essentially defensive formation by which the legioneries would hold their shields overhead,
except for the front rows, thereby creating a kind of shell-like armor shielding them against
missiles from the front or above.” By using this information, | will show how different battle
tactics were used back then and how they evolved into the tactics used today.
