To the parent(s)/guardian(s) of Charlotte,

My name is Ashleigh Genito and I will be working with Charlotte in the Movement
Education program during the upcoming weeks. I would like to take this opportunity to thank
you for allowing Charlotte to participate with us in our class this semester! Charlotte is a great
student who we are lucky to be able to work with in our program. In our Movement Education
program this semester, we will be focusing on structuring problem-solving situations for
children to enhance effective movement. We will be concentrating on developing and
improving locomotor skills, as well as object control and literacy.
During the first few class meetings we focused on determining the present level of
performance for each child using the Test of Gross Motor Development form (TGMD-2). A
TGMD-2 is a test designed to assess the gross motor abilities of children ages three to ten. This
test is based on locomotor movements and object control skills. The program will not only focus
on skill development, but literacy as well. In addition to the TGMD-2, we will develop literacy
skills by creating a connection between the mind and body.
During the Test of Gross Motor Development, Charlotte was able to complete a few of
the tasks. Charlotte was able to balance on various sized balance beams while using alternate
stepping action and she maintained an upright posture. She was able to gallop using her right
foot to lead and her left foot to trail behind, and she was also able to leap over bean bags. This
semester, among other skills, we are going to work on improving the techniques of the
horizontal jump by focusing on both the arms beginning behind the body and taking off and
landing on both feet simultaneously. We will also be working on hopping on one foot at a time
focusing on the nonsupport leg being behind the body and the arms flexed and swinging
forward to produce force.
I am looking forward to continuing to work with Charlotte and helping her improve with
her motor skills and literacy. I hope that she is looking forward to this experience as well. It
would be beneficial to me if I were able to get to know Charlotte a little bit better through you.
Here is my question to you:
In a million words or less, please describe your child. Please email me your response
or give a letter to the day care teacher. If you have any questions for me regarding the
program, please feel free to email me at Ashleigh.genito@cortland.edu.

Sincerely,

Ashleigh Genito
