Conduct an Investigation

In pairs or groups of three you are going to conduct an


investigation to find out a little more about your
classmates.

Pick a Topic
What do you want to gather information about? All the questions you ask
need to relate to this topic.

Writing Questions
Come up with 3 questions related to this topic to ask your classmates.
Question 1 must give categorical answers (categories).
Question 2 must give discrete quantitative answers (something you count).
Question 3 can be either categorical or quantitative data.

Organise the Data


Draw a frequency table to display the results of each question.

Display the Data


Draw a graph to represent the results of each question.
For Question 1 (categorical data) draw a sector graph or a divided bar graph.
For Question 2 (discrete quantitative) draw a frequency histogram.
For Question 3 choose a graph that you believe best displays the data you
have collected.

Analyse the Data


For Question 1 (categorical data) find the mode.
For Question 2 (quantitative data) find the mode,
mean, median and range.
For Question 3 find the appropriate summary
statistics.

Interpret the Data


Write at least 2 sentences for each question
discussing your results.
