Conventions of opening sequences

Institutional logo It is traditional to start the film with the institutional logo as it can sometimes connote
the genre of the film, if the logo is commonly associated with that particular genre e.g. Hammer and horror.

Title

Credits these are shown at the beginning as well as at the end to give the film a positive response through
famous actors or directors. If they have a good reputation it gives the film a good name before anything big
even happens.

Intro to characters This is important to give the audience an idea of who they are rooting for, such as the
protagonist (following Vladimir Propps theory). This allows them to connect with the film.

Narrative enigma these are used at the beginning to set up the storyline and make the audience intrigued
to watch on.
