Contributing

As a teacher there are countless opportunities to contribute to the school, district, and
community. Being a part of the UTeach collaborative will give me opportunities to bring training back to
my school for up to date science and learning activities. A part of the collaborative involves going to
training that will teach me new professional development information to bring back and train my fellow
teachers and staff with. Going to CAST is another way to bring back information and activities to the
school I will be working at. It will have presentations and training sessions on interesting and new
science activities that could boost the science classrooms in my school.
Applying for grants is also a great way to give back to the district and school that I am working
in. We made a mock grant in my Problem Based Interactions class at UTD. I feel after this experience
that I am competent enough to apply for actual grants that will help fund new materials for our
classrooms, and possibly the district itself. I love creating new and interesting material for the
classroom, and fully plan on sharing my ideas with administrators and anyone else that can use it to
boost learning in the classroom. The more a teacher helps others to improve lessons and activities, the
more students learn across the board.
Cooperative between departments is also an important part of contributing to the overall
learning in the school. Math and science go hand and hand, and I plan on using this to mine and other
teachers advantage by working with the math department to incorporate this into our classrooms. I am
constantly on the lookout for new information on how to develop lessons that are interdisciplinary in
that all subjects can be worked together to create an exchange of topics in all classrooms.
