- Teach the play of the game and basic rules, skills o Allow students to make teams and play o Observe skills, teamwork - Introduce skills - Optional Fitness Testing, etc Week 2: Skills instruction and Practice - Throwing, Catching, Centering, Punting (1 day) o Demonstrate all, partners (1 football per 2 people) o Practice centering a few minutes, then throw/catch, then punt o Start close together and move back - Defense and Combined skills (1 day) o 3 fields-- 3 stations (defense, C/QB, receiver)2-3 footballs per field o Defense on one end of field: one-on-one w/receiver, run across to C/QB line o C passes to QB, then goes to receiver line o QB throws to receiver then goes to C o Receiver catches ball and goes to defense line - Mini Game (1 day) o Teach laterals (pass to side or behind) o In small groups (4-6 people) on half field, punt to receivers from line o Receivers try to pass punter+ defense, punter+ defense tries to tag receivers1 point scored for winners (offense scores or defense stops) o Switch positions - Game (1 day) o Demo game with 2 teams, review rules o Allow 10-15 minutes of play Week 3: Games and Skill Testing - Test each team individually (3-4 days) Week 4: Tournament + Super Bowl - Award teams for wins/losses - Compete against other 8th grade class
