6.

Introduce the students to the concept of beat poetry and minimalism by showing examples, such as Rives or Tom Hanks.
Break the students into small groups of 3-5
Ask the groups of students to create a short beat poem with a Love theme.
Then ask them to incorporate their poem with a song that also has a theme of love, such as Somebody to Love by Queen.
Allow the students time during the class period to work on their projects, starting today.
While students are working, walk around in order to answer any questions that students may have, while trying not to influence their
performance.
7. Have the students perform their piece at the end of the class period.
8. Next, have a discussion about everyones performances and how they went about creating their pieces.
9. Then, allow the students time during the next 2 weeks to refine their performances and to incorporate other techniques, such as found
sounds, into their beat poetry.
10. After the students are allowed adequate time to perfect their pieces, record the pieces so the students have a chance to hear their own
performances from the outside, and upload them to a website so all students can access the performances.
