This

unit exemplifies an equal focus on pre-assessment, formative and

summative assessment. As well, the majority of the assessment is informal. This unit
is for students at a beginner level of Spanish. The highest concern is that the
students are internalizing the material and participating in class.

For these reasons, the main rubric of this unit is for participation. As

explained in the rubric, it is required that through worksheets, speaking activities,

and question/answer time the students show an engagement of the material so that
they can not only recognize the content, but reproduce it both in verbal and written
form. After reading the rubric, it should be noted that this assessment requires the
teacher to be vigilant, circulating the classroom, listening and noticing the students
skill level.
In addition to participation, each lesson includes an informal form of
summative assessment to confirm the material learned each day. This summative
assessment is paired with a pre-assessment at the beginning of each class to remind
students of what they learned the previous day as well as provide the teacher with
information regarding the students retention of the knowledge. Therefore, each day
is a sandwich of pre, formative, and summative assessment. Finally, to conclude the
unit, students are assessed in a more formally through a summative quiz.
