Group Discussion
Since I have a topic that almost everyone knows about, it was almost impossible to learn
new information from my peers. A few days ago I was talking to my roommates about Martin
Luther King Jr, and trying to find out what type of information they didn’t know about him.
There were some bits of information that they were surprised to hear, but a majority of it was
already known. ‘The information they found the most shocking were the facts about King being a
hypocrite. How he preached against abuse and adultery, when in reality he would be with
multiple women at a time while he toured the country. As they were receiving the information,
they began to ask questions about different events in King’s life. Some of the questions were:
ow often was he away from home, and for how long? When he was assassinated, how did the
/ country react? How old was he when he was shot? Did his wife know about his affairs? All of
these were great questions that I could answer, for the most part. I made sure to incorporate the
answers to their questions in my presentation, so that if the audience has the same questions, they
are already answered. Finally, they told me I should find some sort of diagram that shows how
many states King had beed at to give speeches. Overall, having a conversation with my
roommates was effective because it gave me a better perspective of how much the audience will
know, and how much more they will want to learn.
