MACHINE PARTS 21.4 TAIL STOCK A tail stock has two main functions : (@) it supports the other end of the work while it is being machined. Gi) it holds a tool while drilling, tapping etc. ‘The body of the tailstock canbe adjusted by sliding it and then it is clamped by bolts and plates (7 & 8). The barrel (3) which carries tailstock spindle (4) moves in and out of the barrel when handwheel (2) is turned. The front portion of the barrel is tapered to accomodate dead centre (6) or other tools. Problem 21.1, Detaif drawing of each part is given in Fig. 21.1 alongwith parts list.
