To distort the background I duplicated the image and put a blurred filter on it, and then

used the eraser tool so that the student appeared in focus again. I repeated this but instead
used a sharpening filter and erased the background rather than the foreground. Also I had
to crop the bottom of the photo because the wall behind the canvas in the background
could be seen.
