1) What are the three core factors that led to the chaos, according to the article?

First there were broken promises between leader and the citizens. Second there is a lingering
cold war era between the Russians and the west for control of suffering countries in the east of
europe. Last is the people who are not liking the way the government is handling the street
protest because they can be very harsh and brutal.

2) Why does Russia feel threatened by Ukraine forming a closer partnership with Europe?
Because they have naval bases in the black sea also they have natural gas pipelines going
through Ukraine.

3) Why did many Ukrainians, especially in the Western part of the country, want Ukraine
to sign political and economic agreements with the European Union?
Because they thought that if they joined with Europe they would have better lives and it would
help the economy and would help the justice system.

4) Why did street protests erupt in November 2013?


Because the president of Ukraine said he was not looking to move forward and just stay how
they were.

5) What were some of the government missteps that helped further fuel the protests?
The things that he did was have police beat young protesters. Also the protest started turning
dealy. Also they rejected a deal for 15 million and a discount on natural gas
