Title: Adding and Subtracting Decimals
1.1 Integration of Objectives
SWBAT perform addition with various decimals up to the thousandths place.
SWBAT perform subtraction with various decimals up to the thousandths place.
1.2 Standards
M05.A-T.2.1.3: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths (no divisors with
decimals).

1.3 Anticipatory Set

Review with students addition and subtraction of whole numbers with students. Ask them their
pervious knowledge of decimals and where they see them in their day to day lives.
1.4 Procedures
Model various addition problems with students.
Do a whole group discussion with various addition problems
Display four addition on the white board and allow individual students to solve. Check answers
with whole class.
Perform the same steps with subtraction problems.
Once students show understanding begin Menu Math activity.
Students get to pick their groups of three. They each get an order paper and menu. They have a
budget of $25 and must not go over. They have three chances to order, with each person
getting a chance to be the waiter or waitress.
1.5 Differentiation
No differentiation is required for this lesson.
1.6 Closure
Collect order sheets to check math and who got closest to $25 without going over and report to
the class. Finish with giving a HW worksheet that contains both addition and subtraction
problems.
1.7 Assessment

Formative- Check students knowledge during individual problem solving. Also, walk around the
room to assess understanding during menu math.
Summative- Collect menu math worksheets and check.

2.2 Reflection after instruction
Not a lot of time was required to go over addition and subtraction of decimals. Give sufficient
amount of time to complete all of the menu math worksheets. Student prove fluent knowledge
of the concepts needed to successfully add and subtract decimals. This being said, students are
ready to take quiz and move on to a new topic.
