On completing the Introduction to IT Module, you should be able
to: o Use a personal computer comfortably and handle hardware and software correctly. o Understand the development of the computer from its origins to the present. o Distinguish between data and information and their roles in modern computing. o Associate the functions of the components of a computer system with the descriptions of the components and compare the capabilities of several computer systems. o Use word processing, spreadsheets and presentation graphics packages. o Understand and apply the definitions of many of the technical words used in the field of computers. o Identify the types of data files, the methods of data retrieval, and the methods of data modeling used in file design. o Perform the steps involved in basic systems analysis and design. o Appreciate the role of computer in society and the workplace, and be aware of the future potential for, and concerns about, the advancement of computer technology.
