PREREQUISITES: Graduate standing or permission of instructor COURSE LOCATION AND CLASS TIMES: Wednesday 1:25-4:30 Millett 301 CATALOG DESCRIPTION: An in-depth scientific knowledge base is explored relevant to selected pathophysiological states across the lifespan confronted by graduate nurses. ‘This course provides a basis for the foundation of clinical decisions related to selected diagnostic tests and the initiation of therapeutic regimens. (COURSE OBJECTIVES: 1. Analyze the interrelationships of biopsychosocial phenomena and physiologic processes. 2. Examine the relationship between physiological conditions and client responses. 3. Apply knowledge of advanced pathophysiology to clinical care situations, 4, Discuss research findings for application to clinical practice. 5. Analyze medical management of disease process and resulting nursing responsibilies. 6. Explore health care variations related to developmental, racial, ethnic and cultural differences. Class participation: Expected ‘Verbal evidence in class of having read and thoughtfully considered the learning materials. Contributions to questions for discussion. Participation percentage is based on the qualily, not simply the amount of your input. ‘Quizzes (10 questions each) —~“a094 (cover lecture and readings) — “There will be six quizzes; one quiz score will be dropped. (Be certain to visit the practice quizzes on the course's web page.) There are no make-up quizzes. If you miss one ‘quiz, this can be the one you drop. CT: Appleton & Lange a TI CASE STUDIES" There are four case studies, one of which you wil formulate yourselt. If you are repeating the course, you must see Dr. Seordo. You cannot repeat any case study you have done in the past. ‘There is no credit given for repeated case studies. Number each question and write out the question you are answering. Do not re-write the case study—write ONLY the question. No credit is given if the question is not written out. For the case study you formulate, choose content area that you are not familar with. Formulate land answer a minimum of four questions that demonstrate your knowledge of the topic, Remember to relate your answers to your case. The first question should be in refation (0 dliferential diagnoses. That is, what other diseasos/condition might the patient's presentation be and what signs/symptoms rules out your differentials. Avoid very basic types of questions, such as ‘what is hypertension? Use a variety of recent references. Check syllabus for due date. You are expected to use proper APA format and grammar. Remember fo reference throughout your paper and list your reference at the end of the last case study. You are expected to review the current iterature all topics, citing published articles in referred journals and to use a variety of resources including current guidelines. Submit cas studies together as one document (1 and 2; 3 and 4) using your last name as part of the ‘Me, Example: Scordo.Case 182 ALL ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO COURSE DROPBOX. No credit is given for papers not submittod. There are no re-takes on any examinations or other assignments. Late papers: Late papers are those not received on the due date. They are not accepted or excepted... Only exception is an emergency, such as a family death or severe iliness. In these situations, the student must notify the faculty as soon as possible. All other late papers will receive a 20% deduction for each week (5 days) they are late. Check syllabus for due date. The paper must be typed double spaced, computer generated Using APA format, Appropriate Internet and WWW resources are acceptable.
