littlebitabouthowValloneusedtobeawellknowncitycouncilmanandanAssistant
DistrictAttorneywhichplayedinhisfavorwhenitcametopublicsafety.Rebeccaargues
howdirectvotercontactisthemostsuccessfulwaytogetavotertosupportyour
candidacy.Sheinformsusthatthis'Superman'piecewasmailedouttoatargetedlistof
likelyvoters,mostlymiddleagedcitizensandworkingclassfamilies.Shetalksaboutthe
visualdesignofthemailer,andhowthelettersandpicturesgrasptheviewers'attention.
Shealsomentionshowitlookslikeasuperherocomic,portrayingafeelingofprotection
andsafety,whichwasastrategyofhiswhenNYwasprettydangerous.Sheincludes
picturesofcertainscenestohelpusvisualizewhatsheistalkingabout,andargues
exigenceispresentalloverthesheet,makingviewersbelievetheyhavetovoteforthe
rightpersoninordertofeelsafeinthecity.Shealsoargueshowthepieceisplayfuland
thuswilllikelyberemembered.

IfeltlikeRebecca'spieceshowsherunderstandingoftheassignment.Herideas
areclearandIfeltlikeshedidaprettygoodjobofanalyzingthepiece.WhenIreadit,it
wascleartomesheunderstoodwhateachoftheelementsmeanandshecouldidentify
theminthepieceshewasanalyzing.SomethingIwouldworkonistryingtofindaway
toshortenthebackgroundinformationsheprovidedus.Idofeellikesheneedstoinclude
ittheresowecanunderstandwherethepieceiscomingfromandwhatitmeans,butI
alsofeellikeitdoestakeupalotofspaceinherassignment,leavinglessspaceforthe
actualanalysisof'Superman'.Ifeellikeshecouldmaybeomitsomeinformation,likethe
sentencethatstartswithManyleadersweretermlimited,andmaybesomepartsof
thedescriptionofDVC.

AlthoughIfeltshedidcoverquiteafewelements,suchasimagery,exigence,the
targetedaudience,amongothers,Idon'tfeellikeshereallydidsoindepth.Ilikedher
argumentintheconclusionwhereshementionsthepieceisfullofexigence,making
votersfeelliketheyhavetovoteforthispersoninordertobesafe,andIfeelshecould
usethatasamajorpointinheranalysisandlookdeeperintoit.Howisexigencepresent?
Dothecolorsandfontschosenplayaroleinportrayingthatexigence?Whatabout
pathos?Ifeellikethereissomepathosinthispiece,asitcreatessomeemotionsoftrust
andmaybepatriotism/nationalismwiththeUSflag?(Justanidea)

MaybeIwouldalsorecommendthatRebeccacreateathesis,orifitisalready
presenttryandmakeitalittlebitmoreclearforusreaders,sowecanknowfromthe
introductionwhathermainargumentis,andherideascanfollowthroughinamore
organizedmanner.SolikeIsaidabove,Ifeellikeshecouldconcentrateontheethos
argument,andanalyzeitmoreindepth,bringinginmorethingstotheanalysislikethe
colorsused,thefontschosen,thepicturesorvisualsincluded,etc.andhowthese
convincethevoterstourgentlyvoteforVallone.
