Summary:
This was about how a new laboratory that had BioSafety Level (BSL) 2, 3, and 4
opened in the middle of Boston. Since it has high levels of experimentation going
on there are several precautions on the outside because getting inside the
building is such a big deal. It has to be set back 100ft from the fence that
separates the sidewalk for the public to the research building. There is a
separate entrance for vehicles and an inspection has to be done before the
vehicle is allowed to go inside. Once inside, going into the laboratory is a huge
deal. The doors do not lead directly into the labs but into holding rooms to
disinfect a person first. Even before going in this room one must change out of
their street clothes into a thin lab suit. After going through all the
aforementioned procedures a person goes into the big plastic suits with head
gear. The whole process takes about 15 minutes just to get into the suit .

Why is this source important?

This source is able to show what needs to be done to get in and out of the
laboratory. Equally important is the recycling of the air because the air becomes
contaminated with biological agents and can harm the researchers.

How will you use this source in your project?

I will use this source to show the level at which ebola has to be taken care at.
Since the cases reported are taken to these laboratories, like the Emory
University case and the one of the 2 Dallas nurses. Usually not much information
is known about the procedures and the operations of these buildings it will serve
to demystify how the experiments work.
