WP # 1: Learning to read
I may have not grown up in the generation of Dr. Seuss or Eric Carle; however, I was
deeply rooted with those authors and their stories when I started reading. Books such as One
Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss and Go, Dog, Go! by P.D. Eastman made up
the base of my early reading skills and still hold a special shelf in my mind. My parents and my
brother started reading to me at a young age; and although I do not remember my first book or
my first word, I do remember being with them as they read to me. One story I reme
particularly well is And to Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street by Dr. seuss./ms
my dad loved to read to me and probably was one of the first books I l\amejo

read. I would
quite often

before I went to sleep at night. I personally did not like the story as much as my dad, but I would
enjoy him reading it while I was still learning to read. Over time I would listen and understand
the things my dad was saying and I would try to put those words he was saying with the symbols
written on the pages of the book. Later on I would realize that those markings were the words he
was saying and that is the start of my reading career.
As I matured and moved on to 15t grade, my mom would make me read Dr. Seuss stories
to her before I would go to sleep. I did not like doing this as much as I enjoyed my parent's
readings, but this is how I learned. Overtime, my reading skills would improve and I started to

move on to more advance books such as The Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborn. My
childhood reading would continue with other books that typical little kids would read. These
books were a great start for my childhood and to this day I still love the imaginative stories from
my youth. As I exceled as a reader, I got involved in more complicated books and book series.
To this day Taggerung, which is a part of the Redwall series, by Brian Jacques is still one of my
favorite books of all time. Due to this base of very creative and imaginative novels and stories I
grew up loving fiction and adventure stories. It took me time to develop my reading skills, but

that is mostly because of my slow development to read more complicated books.
