5 People I admire

|im Dickson
My friend, Alex
Nick Drake
Kevin Breel
Guy

Martin

At first glance, this list may seem like a collection of random, ordinary people. But

it

is far from that. The people on this list have something in common. That unifiiing quality is
a mental drive.

Without going into too much detail, my family friend, |im, my friend, Aler

and a comedian, Kevin, all have experienced im

e and unbearable hardships.

They

no one should ever have to go through. They

life is always so i
hours upon end, just

to me,

demonstrated so much persevrance. Their outlook on

hear about and I feel as if I could listen to them speak for

n better understand them.

Nick and Guy are a little different. Nick was a British musician in the 70's. Like the

aforementioned people, Nick also went through a lot of pain and suffering. Unfortunately,
he gave into that pain later into his life, but he Ieft behind an amazing collection of music.
His music is about this pain, and how he coped with

itwhile he is still alive. To me his trail

of music is inspirational because even though it may be riddled with melancholia, it evokes
a sense of comfort. The calmness of his voice and guitar

letyou know that you're not alone

in this.
Guy Martin is currently a semi'truck mechanic in England. He has one passion, and

thafs racing motorcycles.

He competes annually in a race called the Isle of Man TT. Over

the course of the race's nearly 100-year-old history, over 200 people have died. The prize
money for the race is miniscule, and in fact every time Guy participates, he loses money
despite finishing very well. In 2010, while competing at the race, he crashed his motorrycle

into a stone wall. While he suffered major injuries, he survived, and he raced in the Isle of
Man TT next year. He is dedicated to his passion, and demonsffated incredible courage for

stupidity depending on how look at it) by riding again after a near death experience.
As a whole, I think this list of people shows what I truly admire, mental

perseverance. I think this because it's a trait that doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I

admire someone who can think their way out of a difficult situation more than someone
who fights their way out of a problem. I wish that I could develop these skills, since I feel
that I lack mental "toughness" at times. Despite already meeting only two people on this
list, I would wait a long time if I had the opportunity to see them again.
