Dear Scholarship Board:
As a hard-working student, I have always strived to help others. Helping other
students is the reason I plan to follow into a career in education. Teachers have been
great examples for how I can lead others and their influences have helped me in deciding
to be an educator. I have grown up from a family of educators as well. My mother, a
kindergarten teacher, and my aunt, a secondary teacher, have brought to my eyes the
energy, purpose, and fun in teaching. I decided to try teaching after attending a
leadership conference. Through my church, I talked with the Confirmation students
about my experiences and how I had grown in my faith. After leading the discussion
with those students a realized I should teach a religious education class. The next year I
went to the youth ministry director and she set me up with the seventh grade religious
education students. At first I was nervous, but as the year went on I grabbed on to the
idea: teaching others is worthwhile. I would plan out class based upon guidelines and
would need to make sure any and all questions from students would be answered.
My plan of study will include Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa and major in
Elementary Education with a Special Education endorsement. This scholarship would
assist me in many ways considering the extra thirty hours of course work that comes with
the special education endorsement. By receiving my endorsement I will have many more
options to assisting children learn and this scholarship will bring me closer to doing so.
While studying at Clarke, I am sure I will find other opportunities that your scholarship
could assist me financially.
With experience in education I know I will enjoy studying the subject at Clarke
University and enjoy the opportunities provided though this scholarship.
Sincerely,

Nicholas Riedesel
