Bell hooks

The punishment I received for talking back were intended to suppress all possibility that I
would create my own speech. That speech was to be suppressed, so that the right speech of
womanhood would emerge. She wrote a thesis that explains her feeling when she was a child,
and from that time she had a dream to have the right to do her own speech. She implied that there
were glimmer of hope when she said in black communities women have not been silent, so
even when the voice of women was not heard there were some folks trying to do the right thing.
She used writing as method to express her feeling. She said writing was a way to capture speech.
Her dream was to be a writer since she was child; it was not essay for her but she persevered.
Even when she wrote books she kept feeling held back because of the past events.
