Hotwell inspection

Hotwell inspections should be performed during each refueling outage with the
waterbox inspections. The inspection should include the following:
Visual inspection for foreign materials and general cleanliness.
Inspection for erosion, corrosion, cracks, and weld failures of all internals.
Inspection for cracking in the tube support welds, sparger lines, and impingement
plates.
Visual inspection for evidence of steam/fluid erosion.
Inspection of the condensate pit screening for looseness.
Inspection of the baffles for cracks and evidence of failure.
Examination of the internal baffles and spargers for weld cracks and ligament
cracks.
Inspect the turbine expansion joint and protective cover for cracks, damage, and
overall condition.
Inspect the extraction steam piping expansion joints and protective cover for
cracks, damage, and overall condition

Waterbox inspection
Waterbox inspections should be performed during each refueling outage and

include the following inspection tasks:

Visual inspection for evidence of erosion, corrosion, and cracks

Visual inspection for fouling and determination of the degree of fouling for future
cleaning intervals

Inspection of the cathodic protection system for damage to anodes and supports;
ensuring proper settings and operation of the impressed and sacrificial systems

Inspection of o-rings for evidence of damage and deterioration

Examination of the welds on the waterbox platform and the ladder rungs for any
failure
