physicianwhoimmigratedtoChinaandmadecontributionstoimprovinghealthcareinChinaover
severaldecades.
HansMllerwasborninDsseldorf,GermanyastheonlychildofHenriette(died1949)andSimon
FredMller(died1952).HisfatherownedanelectricalgoodsfactoryinDsseldorf.Becausehewas
Jewish,SimonFredMllerwasheldcaptiveintheTheresienstadtconcentrationcampfrom1942to
1945.HansMllerwenttostudymedicineinSwitzerlandfrom1933to1939.Afterthat,heimmigrated
toShanghai,wherehepracticedmedicineandinitiatedseveralprojectstoaidchildren.
DuringtheSecondSinoJapaneseWar,HansMllermovedtoYan'an,whichservedasthecenterofthe
Chinesecommunists,toworkintheemergencyroomoftheInternationalPeaceHospital.Heheld
medicalpostsintheEighthRouteArmyandthePeople'sLiberationArmy.[1]Afterthewar,hehelda
positionintheChangchunHospital.ThefurtherstagesofhiscareerwereanappointmentasProfessorat
theShenyangMedicalCollege,wherehelaterservedDeanandheadofpediatrics,anappointmentas
ProfessorofInternalMedicineatBeijing'sJishuitanHospital,andfinallyvicepresidentofBeijing
MedicalUniversity.HeconductedresearchintheareasofpediatricmedicineandhepatitisB.
HansMllerwasmarriedtoKyokoNakamurawithwhomhehadadaughter,MimiMller.Heisburied
attheBabaoshanRevolutionaryCemeteryinBeijing.
