Introduction

Shri Mandana Misra was defeated by Shri Adi Sankaracharya in erudite discussion in
Poorva Meemamsa. The drying up of the garland in Mandana Misra's neck illustrated
this defeat and his wife Ubhayabharati immediately stated that Sankaracharya's
victory was not complete until he won over her in the discussion. To keep
Sankarachaya in perplexing condition she put questions to the Sanyasin Shri
Sankaracharya on Kama Sastra. Shri Sankaracharya took one month's time to answer
her questions and to get the requisite knowledge, he entered in samadhi and made
parakayapravesam into the body of the Maahishmathi Maharaj Amarsen, who just
then died He made extensive observations while in Amarsen's body and sent his
answers to the Mandana Misra couple through Lavana Gupta. Amarsen's queens
spotted out that a great saint had entered into the body of the King. The rule of the
saint king was so magnificent, that queens and ministers wanted to keep the supposed
great personage, in Amarsen's body and so they sent a team to search for bodies that
were preserved and to destroy them. In their search they came across the body of Shri
Sankarachaya, kept under the protection of his disciples Padmapada and others . The
king's men tried to cremate Sankaracharya's body on fire.
Sankaracharya in the body of Amarsen was informed of the catastrophe.
Sankaracharya at once rushed to his own body leaving the body of Amarsen. But by
that time his hands and legs had been consumed by fire and to get back his former
position Shri Sankaracharya makes this Lakshmi Nrusimha Karavalamba Stotram. He
soon became his former self by the grace of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy.
This Stotra wards off all evils and frees all people from the fear of fire, water, snakes,
scorpions and diseases and mundane difficulties and one is sure to get the Divine
Bliss.
