Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
InTASC Standard 9 Professional Learning and Ethical Practice
The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to
continually evaluate her practice, particularly the effects of her choices and
actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community)
and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner (Council of Chief State
School Officers, 2011).
Brief Description of Evidence:
Completed Fall 2013, Introduction to Education
I created a tri-fold brochure that explains the theory of well-known educational
theorist Alfred Bandura.
Analysis of What I Learned:
I learned that Banduras beliefs were groundbreaking in that they helped move
education away from repetition and drill, and toward modeling and experience.
With this greater understanding I have become ever more aware of how my
behavior and practices will affect my students and their success. If I am calm and
collected, the children around me are more likely to be. If I can show high-quality
examples of work, the quality of my students work should improve.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the
InTASC Standard:
This artifact is an example of professional learning in itself. The care I took in
preparing it shows that I value education research. The understanding I gained
from this experience has motivated me to learn about other theorists. I have
already put my understanding into practice with students I substitute teach. I
approach teaching with a positive attitude. I am attentive and helpful. I present
material to the best of my ability. I observe other teachers whenever possible to
learn and develop my own best practices. As a teacher, I will continually research
education topics and try new things in my classroom. My practices will consist of
the things that bring the most positive effects. I look forward to ongoing
professional learning as I share and receive ideas among fellow teachers. I will
connect with the teachers I work with face to face. I will connect with other
educators via twitter and other networking tools.
