Rhetoric
Aristotles Rhetoric is an explanation of every effective speech. It breaks
down the types of rhetorical proof one uses in persuasion. It also shows why we like
the speakers we do through the five canons of rhetoric. Recently, people in my
speech class gave persuasive speeches to convince everyone to vote for their
candidate as the next World Changer. I saw examples of ethos, pathos, and logos in
almost every speech. Some students focused mostly on the logical factstheir
candidates had written best-selling novels, led thousands to Christ, and so on.
Others appealed to emotion with heart-wrenching personal stories of how their
candidate had changed their life. Still others recommended people like Gandhi for
the moral and ethical good they pursued. In my speech, I attempted to convince the
class to vote for J.K. Rowling, based on all three of the factors.
