www.ksu.ac.inKarnataka Samskrit University was established by the Karnataka
Government in 2010 for promoting the rich cultural, scientific and
spiritual heritage of India and also for bringing out the contributions of
Karnataka in the domain of Samskrit for the last five thousand years.
The main vision of our University is to promote the cultural ethos of
India as embedded in Samskrit literature for the overall development of
an individual and for the welfare of the society. Quality teaching
through development of good curriculum, quality research, good
support of research staff, academic activities and adequate extension
through lectures, workshops and publications have been our
predominant mission under the stewardship of Prof. Shrinivasa
Varakhedi , Vice Chancellor I/c and Prof. M.K. Sridhar, Registrar. With
the above mission in mind, the Karnataka Samskrit University will be
organizing a National Conference on the theme ‘Role of Women as.
reflected in Samskrit Literature’.
National Conference
Role of Women as reflected
in Samskrit Literature
Preamble
Women have played a significant role at all levels i.e. family, society and
nation since a long time in India. The legendary women of the Vedic
period such as Apala and Sulabha, Gargi, Maitreyi, Katyayani of the
Upanishadic period, Anasuya, Savitri and Damayanti of Puranic period,
Sita, Shakuntala and Draupadi of the epic period, Sheela,Morula, Marika and Gangambika of the medieval period, Rani
Chennamma of Kittur, Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi, Samyukta Pruthviraj
and other heroic and patriotic ladies have played a significant role in
upholding the everlasting values of India. In the process, some of the
great ladies laid down their lives for a noble cause. Their heroic saga has
been documented in Samskrit literature from Vedic to contemporary
times.
In the changing global scenario, it has become inevitable for Indian
women to work and balance both professional and family life. When
there is a hue and cry regarding the role of women in the modern Indian
context, it is a right time to explore and bring out the noble attributes of
women in ancient India. Hence, a National Seminar has been proposed
by KSU on this theme: Role of Women as reflected in Samskrit
Literature.
The conference aims to bring a wide range of topics which reflect the
theme from past and present. Presentations in Samskrit, English,
Kannada are encouraged to do justice to the indigenous modes of
understanding the theme.
