SATURN

BASIC CHARACTERISTICS:
Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest
planet in the Solar System, after Jupiter.
We can differentiate it from others because it has a prominent ring
system that consists of nine continuous main rings and three
discontinuous arcs.

INTERNAL STRUCTURE:
Saturn's interior is
probably composed of a
core of iron, nickel and
rock (silicon and oxygen
compounds), surrounded
by a deep layer of
metallic hydrogen, an
intermediate layer of
liquid hydrogen and
liquid helium and an
outer gaseous layer. The
planet radiates more
energy into space than it
receives from the Sun.

THE SATURN'S RINGS:

The rings of Saturn are

the most extensive
planetary ring system of
any planet in the Solar
System. They consist of
small particles that orbit
about Saturn. This
particles are made
almost entirely of water
ice, with a trace
component of rocky
material.

THE SATURN'S RINGS:

Saturn's rings may be very old,
dating to the formation of Saturn
itself. There are two main theories
regarding the origin of Saturn's
inner rings:
One theory is that the rings were
once a moon of Saturn, whose orbit
decayed until it came close enough
to be ripped apart by tidal forces.
The other theory is that the rings
were never part of a moon, but are
instead left over from the original
nebular material from which Saturn
formed.

CURIOSITIES:

Astronomical symbol
Titan, the biggest Saturn's
satellit, it's the only moon that
has a thick atmosphere.
The element that is more
abundant in Titan's
atmosphere is nitrogen, like
the Earth.

Galileo was the first person who

discovered the Saturn rings, but
he ignored its nature and he said
that Saturn was a planet with
ears.
We think that the rings of Saturn
are the particles of an old moon
that was destroyed by a collision
50 millions years ago.
Is supoposed that the Saturn
rings will desappear one day. It
could be disolved in the space or
it could be atractted to another
planet for its gravitational
attraction.

Saturan is the only planet of our solar system that it has minus
density than water.
A year in Saturn is like 29 year in our planet, but just a day in
Saturn lasts 10 hours and 14 minutes.
Saturn is an small version of Jupiter with a third of its mass.

Saturn it's the planet that

has more moons in our
solar system.
Saturn was the god of the
agriculture in the roman
mythology. Saturn is also
the father of Jupiter, the
king of the roman gods.
Saturn is also known as
The jewel of the Solar
Sysem because is the
most beautifull one.
