While not compromising any of the original teachings, Buddhism adjusts and adapts to every era, In this manner, regardless of the day and age, the project: “imaging a place for Buddhism’ can serve as a place of spiritual refuge and guidance for everyone. The mystery behind the natural therapy offered by any sacred place ! A ‘The larger purpose behind improving on such an idea is improving people's spiritual lives, and as a result, improving the world as @ whole, Based on the ruins of ancient temples that were excavated in India, itis evident that these ancient temples appeared to have well designed sanitation areas, sophisticated ventilation systems, and overall structures that could be regarded as highly advanced for the era Objectives Today, the architecture of Buddhist complexes has not and should not remain confined only to the needs of Buddha ~ Dhamma — Sangha alone, ‘The objective for a "place for Buddhism” is to have people engaged in the varied programs and opportunities available to them, including studying in the school which will teach them moral stories, gaining knowledge of mind and soul in the lecture room, sharing ideas in the conference room, and much more. ‘Therefore, future developments in architecture should allow sacred complexes like this to play a more significant role in people's social, intellectual, and spiritual development. To accomplish this, the place for Buddhism will have: + Aplace that belongs to everyone, place for self-cult + Asshrine to pay respects to the one who offered the great path to the mankind, ‘+ An audio visual hall cum conference hall, which is conducive to open communication and the sharing of ideas, + An alms house , where one is taught the lost moral : “sharing” ! an experience that answered , have you ever shared your meal with a stranger? + A.separate monastery/ living space for the monk community and the lay man community. + The community nodes- 2 dhamma pavilion where people can freely interact and develop supportive friendships. + A.schoo! to cultivate oneself in the immense knowledge which will emphasise on redefining the way to live life with @ positive energy. With wisdom and loving-kindness, the Buddha altered the method of his teachings to match th special needs of the audience or the person he was addressing. \n the same way, imaging a place for Buddhism is an attempt to offer the most convenient and appropriate facilities that comply with the unique needs of every era Scope ‘+ Design is oriented towards form, emphasising on the different art forms from Buddhist symbols, hand mudras of Buddha to mandalas and the universal architecture. Design does not copy the Buddhist early architecture, interestingly, it communicates in the contemporary language serving the purpose to reach the present and future community. + In-a city like Visakhapatnam, which has its own history in Buddhist period . the site becomes more prominent and could serve as a place for Buddhism/compassion as it had already served as a Buddhist centre during 3 rd century AD f ‘+ Visakhapatnam is known for its topographical and climatic features. The proposed terminal will help in introducing additional trains in future which is no more possible in howrah and Sealdah due to lack of proper infrastructure, It will also help in off-oading of the existing terminals by shifting some services. Moreover, the left out works for remodelling of Howrah and Sealdah terminals can smoothly be executed by shifting major services temporarily to this proposed terminal once itis constructed. Importance of the Topic: With limited space available at Howrah station, SER had started developing both Santragachi and Shalimar station to handle long-distance trains. While platforms ‘and other facilities were developed at Sentragachi, it could never take off as an alternative to Howrah due to lack of initiative on the part of the state government in creating proper connectivity from Kolkata. Those who don't have their own vehicles are forced to walk the 500-odd metres from the station to Kona expressway to avail of public transport presently For those living in central, south & south sub urban Kolkata, Santragachi is a better option than Howrah in terms of connectivity to south eastern railway. After developing few basic facilities at the station initially, stoppages were given at Sentragachi for nearly all mail/exoress trains that started from Howrah. It was realized that people wanted to avail the facilities at Santragachi, but were not too sure of the connectivity of transit. Though a few trains were shifted from Howrah to Santragachi, full facilities couldn't be utilized. ‘Aim: Developing an architectural solution for a functionally apt inter transit hub without disturbing the surrounding ecological habitat as much as possible, which also takes the stand of an icon in the urban fabric of the city. An attempt has been made to find the right solution, studying the malfunctioning of the existing stations. Methodology: © Understand the transportation network of the site. ‘© Solve the directional conflicts and make traffic flow easy of the highway. ‘+ Make the flow of passengers’ quick, segregating them according to their circulation. ‘+ Provide proper passenger amenitles for comfort. ‘+ Tounderstand the impact of a development of this scale in terms of traffic, land use, ‘environment & urban design which in turn lead to a solution to integrate the three primary zones viz ; The station, the lake around and the Kona national highway. + Tomake an architectural statement in the building design so as to treat it as a gateway to the city. Due to high-end economic activities in the state there is huge potential for developing marinas. Marinas attract users of speed boats & yachts and promote tourism. They also give rise to ancillary activities e.g construction, maintenance facilities and logistic support for leisure activities; which it turn generate employment. Marinas would also help decongest water areas b’ eliminating un-authorized/ un-organized anchorages. AIM To establish minimum requirements for the sitting, design, construction, and operatio: of marinas to serve the needs of boaters, while properly managing the State’s nature resources, and protecting public health. To design a Marina in Mumbai. It shall includ: a private club/resort along with refueling, washing and repair facilities. All require: equipment stores and restaurants and shopping kiosks and exhibition facilities for boe fairs, IMPORTANCE OF THE TOPIC India’s first and only attempt so far to set up one has been in Kochi, Kerala.India has 7,600km of coastline, warm weather, a booming economy and projections of a 50 pe cent below-25 population by 2020. In the next five years, the leisure boating industry will be worth at least US$1 billion, but so far, demand outstrips supply as far as marinas go. The quayside off Mumbai's Gateway of India is already clogged with boats of all sizes uses and types, and people frequently jump from one vessel to another to reach their own. Prior to the boat show, there were around 20-30 pleasure boats here: post~ event, there are more than 100. But there are no marinas. As most of these cities have developed organically, without much thought given to the planning aspects of city development, they severely lack basic amenities and facilities that are required for the sustenance of a modern lifestyle. Such problems are usually prevalent in the older areas of the city. The redevelopment of such areas are incredibly essential for the growth and stability of the country, while at the same time highly sensitive, because of the thousands of livelihoods that are dependent on such areas. Hence,, the need of the hour for modern India, is developing these areas, in a systematic and a sensiive manner, providing all the essential facilities and amenities, while dealing with all the cultural and religious aspirations of the people of the area. ‘Aim: The crux of the following thesis is the redevelopment of one of the older cores of the city of Bangalore, and strives to deal with the problems practically, rationally and primarily sensitively. Objectives Study the existing development and propose *More public open spaces “Design these open spaces fo encourage interaction and promote culture *Rework the traffic pattern, and provide parking to exploit the full business potential of the area *An attractive and consistent elevation for the entire street *Varying experiences for people walking on the sireet in terms of the urban environment *Make the area disabled friendly *Provide amenities like dustbins, seating, street lights, etc. *To create a contemporary identify for the area Name of the Student: Noel Johnson Reg. So it very true when we say that one of the most effective adaptations of modem architecture is the site i.e., region, climate and functions. Resorts are usually designed in such a manner as to create outdoor space and optimized views to guest rooms and public areas. It also sometimes makes use of traditional pattem of art and architecture with an emphasis of local architecture and at the same time use high end technology and infrastructure. Water is essential to life in every form. A material that we are trying to preserve, conserve, clean and reuse, water is also an element we continue to fight against, barricading ourselves, for example, against rising sea levels and the threat of flood. Although water covers about two-third of the carth’s surface, only 3 percent of this amount is freshwater and about two-thirds of that is ice. Since the percentage of freshwater available is very less, we should not use that for purposes like recreational features. Instead of that it's better to adopt sca as a recreational centre, Considering that living on water will not mean one would have to disturb the marine ecology, but rather adapt to it and enhance the environment for botl the people and the marine life, Tourism is a most important component of state economy and plays an important role in the socio economic development of the state. Goa, a tiny emerald on the Western Coast of India is indeed a place of tranquility and a safe tourist destination for the visitors from all over the world. This tiny state which made its beginning with 2 lac tourists could succeed in galloping the tourist traffic to 26 lecks in 2012 which is more than its population, ‘The intension is to show that a design of floating resort is feasible complementing the existing tourism as well as exploring new possibilities in many directions. Also, it does represent an attractive alternative to what would be a regular land-supported resort or space, if we have such an attractive site in the middle of sea, im: To develop an alternative approach towards recreational facilities using the site potential, by creating a floating resort on Arabian Sea providing unique floating experience on sca to visitors and complementing the (ourism industry in Goa. Objectives 1, To develop alternative approach towards recreational facilities where the site has a tremendous potential in itself that visitors can enjoy the site as well as building (construction). 2. To provide a new direction towards humen habitation on water surface in low lying water areas, rivers, lakes, and sea, To propagate an idea of sustainable approaches and directions of recreational spaces. 4, To provide the country with an advanced! resort facility that would boost the tourism market and at the same time enrich people's awareness regarding marine life 5. To provide a prototype conceptual design exploring the possibilities of integrated architectural and naval design. 2 About 7 kilometers away from Goa beach baseline on Arabian Sea, near Dona Paula, Goa. ‘Scope of tne work: ‘The floating resort design will cover and demonstrate the practical possibility of the ideas including technical ‘and structural details, services details, and environmental issues to a basic level. It's belleved that the secretariat is the seat of power and governance, but | also believe that secretariat as ¢ building and as a place, is an idea, an idea of believe in what it holds ind stands for ike good governance, policy, adminisiration for the greater good of the people and the state. {would like fo see a building of such type to nat just act robust and firrn but friendly and welcoming, a building that embraces the common people and the system of public, Bureaucracy and the government. Sit Winston Churchill On the rebuilding of the House of Commons after the war said: "We shape our buildings, and afterwards our buildings shape us." Buildings have not just remained a mere object of dwelling but in recent age have outgrown its own potential to shape our way of living, landscape and our settlement. Thomas Jefferson while building the campus of Univesity of Virginia believed that the temple of Knowledge which was designed to symbolically represent the Pantheon of Rome to be the focal point and its entrance as grand as the house of knowledge. Secretariat's design has always been a representation of idea; le Corbusier's plain cast concrete of Secretariat was a representation of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru’s idea of creating Chandigarh as the new face of democratic, independent and modern India. The design represents in the form of modern idea, materials and modem form. It was in contrast to what patiament, old palaces and major other Indo sarscenic buildings of that era looked like. It was a clear idea of where Nehru’s vision for India wos heading, he also believed that the building should represent modern thoughts with the future in vision. Another building, Bhopal's Vidhan Bhavan designed by Charles Corea which won the Agha Khan Awar. another modem secretariat building which is celebrated as ‘Critical regionalism- a regional architecture that creatively engaged the universal modern’ . The design draws its inspiration from historical Buddhist Stupa at Snachi and architectural symbols and motifs from the past. Charles Correa believed that traditional forms could be used to the extent that it can be re-nvented. It is a place providing focus for the arts. This centre is meant to offer a centralized hub and portal where all the arts - performing, visual, musical and literary - can be created, showcased, shared and experienced. Sensitivity towards art has always been prevalent in our country. However, it is necessary to promote all forms of art, as well as enrich the community. The role of an ArtSpace in the present urban scenario is to be a physical anchor tying the world of art practice to its people. As architects, we must be able to create a space which does more than just house the art; this must be an environment where the public and the art intersperse with one another to create a realm of its own. People must be drawn not only towards the art, but towards the ArtSpace. “The ArtSpace also gives importance to the spaces beyond the White Cubes of Galleries and Black Boxes of Theatres. The architecture of the ArtSpace needs to be oriented towards the objective of creating an engagement between the piace and the users. To enable such an engagement, the architecture needs to be more closely responsive to the habitual actions and expectations in the experience of dwelling. The ArtSpace has a great potential as a significant hub of activity and attention with regard to the arts, a matter of great importance In our society. Scope and tions: The design will be explored in terms of functional aspects, spatial aspects, and most importantly parameters of engagement. Technical aspects of acoustics and lighting will not be dealt with in depth. While due importance is given to the built up spaces for presentation and workshops, importance is also given to the unbuilt spaces which weave the fabric of the ArtSpace. Public places that are heavily ticketed (apart from being secluded and entirely interiorised) are growing in number in Indian cities. Public parks in particular are thus very important as a fast-vanishing resource of places unconditionally open to the public. In reality, however, most of our public parks are neither ‘actively’ engaging nor inclusive. Rather they function in a dry transactional mode, stopping at a basic facilitation of the art encounter and rarely becoming vibrant public places or institutions fulfiling more than a specialized functional role. A place where recreation shares a space with other socially ‘integrative’ activities: If nothing else, it helps us imagine a contemporary model of the public park as a truly engaging public place formulated in the idiom of the day. Aim To propose creative design solutions that will help In creating a built environment that will foster an engagement between the viewer, the activities and the community environment. = Tocreate an aesthetically appealing built space. = To creatively design the spatial arrangement of the different spaces within the building and create a good visual and physical connectivity between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Tourism has been proved itself as one among the best ways to upgrade the lost rural culture. The village life in Kerala forms the backbone of this state in the Indian peninsula. The traditions of Kerala that used to be practiced during the old days can no longer be found in recent times in the busy city life. However, many of them can still be seen to be practiced in the day-to-day village life of Kerala. There are only few villages left untouched by so called “development”. As architects we have commitment towards preservation of our tradition and culture which can be recaptured by frames of architecture and be highlighted internationally. RELEVANCE OF THE PROJECT: Culture, occupations and architecture of rural Kerala are being forgotten and ignored, which is leading into extinction of a rich tradition. Currently resorts and heritage hotels are focusing on Kerala temple architecture and traditional bungalows which are famous for intricate wooden works and craftsmanship, which is worth mentioning. But on the other side, rural traditions and architecture which were practiced in greater part of Kerala is being forgotten. During 2001-2011, the urban population of India grew at a CAGR of 2.8%, resulting in the increase in level of urbanization from 27.81% to 31.16%. This growing concentration of people in urban areas has led to problems of land shortage, housing shortfall and congested transit and has also severely stressed the existing basic amenities such as water, power and open spaces of the towns. Assam is situated in the North-East region of India - bordering seven States viz. Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and West Bengal and two countries viz. Bangladesh and Bhutan. With a geographical area of 78,438 sa. kms.i.e., about 2.4 per cent of the country’s total geographical area.Assam provides shelter to 2.2 per cent population on of the Country. Most of the State's population on lives in the lush and verdant valleys of its two major river systems in the twenty four districts of the Brahmaputra valley and the three districts of the Barak valley. Aim: > To try and leam how construction is done on a hilly terrain. > Try and learn how architecture can revive the essence of an area and bring about urban reform in area. And ultimately to try and make a housing facility in the situation where population is increasing rapidly. Also to try and give solution to all the questions which arise on site level, also keeping in mind the social behavior of the people. Justification to the topic: Guwahati has a long historic glory attached to it. This city in the modem era — is an ancient urban area, metropolitan and largest city of Assam as well as of north-eastern India. It is one of the fastest developing cities in India and is a major city in Eastern India. It is often referred as “gateway” of North Eastern Region of the country. Development of such potential future metropolitan city is very much required. Choosing housing as a topic is an effort to try and give a solution to the prevailing situation, to give a better living standard to the people by design and in turn an effort to take the level of architecture to the next level keeping in mind the social and environmental factors related. It is a live project which is at its designing stage. The site is of a private ‘owner. Devasheesh Singh Reg. No. 1080100029 Batch: 2008 - 2013. Complimenting it, there is an anticipation of rich cultural history from traces of civilizations that existed in the past. Excavations that have been carried out in regions in and around Nagpur have more often than not, unearthed many hidden forms of human expressions. The center for contemporary art is anticipated to be an umbrella space for the budding artists of the region. It aims to generate a contingent environment where artists with different mediums of expression can come together, get mutually inspired and benefit from each other's presence. Centrifugal energy of spaces like these can have a self-assuring effect on artists as well as the common mass, as over a period, they metamorphose into an experimental workshop like setup that could in effect generate a guild like fraternity. Aims and Objective : Nagpur, at this juncture is buoyant in the euphoria and momentum gained from unearthing of treasure it always possessed, history always strengthens self- pride. The aim is to design a Centre for promoting and nurturing artistic and historic. ‘expression. The aim is to design a precinct that shall serve as a melting pot for humanistic interaction. Site justification (Background) : Located in the center of India, the city of Nagpur is the third largest city in the state of Maharashtra after Mumbai and Pune. This plays a vital role in generating revenue from the Vidharbha region for the state, and hosts markets for all the surrounding districts and also some parts of Madhya Pradesh. With some major development coming up in the city such as * MIHAN project © Cargo hub at the airport, * Packages for industrial set-up from the program Advantage Vidharbha. * New power plant set-up Nagpur city will soon become a metropolitan city, with valuable parcels of land coming under development. One such parcel of land is the site where the central jail, Nagpur is currently situated. Site selection : The entire site of the jail is about 75 acres from which a parcel of land is been taken up for the project serving the locality and the upcoming development. As from the previous studies of redevelopments of jail site it is observed that the kind of development taking place on the land of the old jail is subjected to instant commercial activities which will affect the Surroundings and the environment. ‘Thus this jail site with future development will increase the foot fall in the locality, the projects acts as a counter magnet to the activities coming up in the surrounding. + To create a buffer zone, thus slowing down the intensity of development towards the other parts. * To preserve a part of the land for public recreation activities like educational area art center, convention center , etc. ‘Scope and limitation : The thesis provides an opportunity to generate a precinct that combines history and the contemporary. Like a magnet it could attract and incubate the exploits of researchers, fine and performing artists, and mature their expression into vocabularies that could shape and influence generations. The focus of the project will be more on planning perspective, functionality, transitional spaces. Design a democratic place where public not only comes for visiting the art gallery or the museum but also for leisure activities. Vegetable market is a part of settlement from the bingeing. A weekly market is like a small carnival for the people. This market is not only for the vegetables but also for other grocery, toys, prepared food eic. this place acts like an urban mall in rural areas. Justification of topic A vegetable market is an important place for the community. It is a public gathering place just like any other market place with a commercial exchange takes place. But in an urban level it is always unplanned and unhygienic. This place could be more than just a place for the shopping but a very healthy public space. My attempt here is to make architecturally treated vegetable market with a public place. Objective Vegetable markets are unplanned and many times organic in development. There locations are fixed nearly before independence, when a planned city was a new concept. So this markets use to be in outer part of the settlements, in between the farms and the setilement. But this area was organized according to the venders and the place they capture. Farm fo vender is a bigger route for the vegetables. It directly increases the price and decreases the quality of the vegetable, Where as in places like farmers market, the vegetables are sold directly to the consumer making vegetables cheaper and maintain the quality. My objectives are 1. Creating vegetable market as a public space. 2, Farmers benefit. 3, Bringing farms in urban area. Thess Synopsis - 2013 Design methodology Proposed site ECR Link Road, Chenn Conclusion This thesis will provide a architectural design solution to the unplanned and neglected area of urban planning. In the times of big retail stores like wall mart and reliance fresh, which acts as a middle person. This will provide the farmer to directly engage in commercial exchange with urban masses. Because of huge work opportunities and a comparatively small skilled workforce, number of employed heads per household has increased. Long working hours and strict deadlines is very common in the urban scenario. As a result, people have lesser time for social interaction. We have reached a situation where many people residing in apartments hardly know the residents in the other floors, let alone interacting with them. The lack of social interaction may result in loneliness, depression, insecurity. The typology of the majority of residential buildings in the cities has also changed a lot Two or three storied family houses are being demolished to provide land for high-rise apartments, that can accommodate a larger number of people per unit area, While this change is inevitable, the concerning fact is that in most of the apartments and housing projects that are mushrooming in the cities and suburbs, litle or no attention is paid to space for interaction between the residents. The only area where a person may meet his or her neighbor is usually the lift, or staircase landing or garage.....not ideal spaces for a chat Aim: The aim is to create a complex with luxury apariment buildings and row housings, laid out in a high density pattern that is expected to increase the level of social interaction between the residents, and create a neighbourhood feeling that is disappearing steadily from the fast paced life in developing cities. There is often a need to freeze history, to be sure that people will remember what has happened. Stone monuments stand forever, and are meant as eternal reminders. Currently, india does not have a national war memorial. The iconic India Gate contains only the names of over 90,000 martyrs of the First World War and those of earlier British campaigns around the world. The building could seem to appear as an urban car exhibitor, with its corners and angles filled with tempting shining exposed automobiles. The structure should complement the site as it is located at the brand new buddh international racing circuit at jaypee sports village in greater Noida along Yamuna expressway. India there is no proper place to visualize the whole view of Indian industry with its historic and futuristic designs. India has a big sector indulge into automobile industry. Starting from the era of kings to British there were lots of car lovers with a huge collection of antique cars. As per estimates, 1000 to 3000 vintage cars exist in India today, valued at Rs 350 crore (Rs 3.5 billion). Some of the biggest vintage car collectors in India own the rare Mercedes 540 K and the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, both valued at more than Rs 1 crore (Rs 10 million). There is need of a museum which could house such cars and other automobiles and there accessories. Then suggest a range of possible responses in terms of both planning process and architectural built form. Objective Objective is to both preserve and erase; A desire to preserve is linked to the aesthetic of informality and the intense sociality, diversity and productivity of the streets and lanes ~ it is an incredibly interesting and diverse urban assemblage. The desire to erase stems from poor conditions of sanitation, ventilation, light, open space, overcrowding in some areas and provide a healthy living environment. Abstract Slums have constituted an integral part of Mumbai's cityscape for several decades. With its potential to provide employment to a vast multitude, the city attracts a large number of people. Many of them stay in slum colonies for the lack of a better alternative. Slum—dwellers stay in shanty structures in unhygienic environment, not by choice but by compelling circumstances as they were thrown out of the formal housing sector, the latter being unaffordable and much beyond their income levels. It is imperative to enhance their standard of living and for which an authorized dwelling unit is a first step in the right direction. This, in tum, will bring about a marked improvement in their hygiene and health as well as raise the level of public hygiene which has fallen to very low ebb. Need for study Navrang, dharavi in Mumbai exemplifies what is most ugly and what is most inspiring about slum life in a city. How should it be redeveloped to remove the ugliness and yet relain ils community spirit, enterprise, ambitions and hope? Current government redevelopment plans are focused on profit-making, by developers and government, with the welfare of the residents an incidental nuisance. Name of the Student: Rohit Jaiswal Reg. No. 1080100043 Batch: 2008 - 2013 Thesis Synopsis - 2013 Scope and Limitation Commercial activities inside these slums is an informal, decentralized production process relying on a network of small, home-based production units. House owners own 2 to 4 rooms and rent out half of it-and are dependent on this rental income. It appears that the residents of Navrang have proven resistant to upgrading plans largely because they fear the loss of rental income from their existing property. The flow of rental income is regarded as a crucial to their future, particularly their children’s education. Residents are unlikely to agree to lose existing housing and rental income; yet the existing redevelopment frameworks has no scope for the replacement of rental space. This creates a trauma in the minds of the community who are in many ways forced to change their mode of living and most important of all their culture which is an imperative for a unique segregation of a community among others. In this process what gets affected the most is the ecological environment, which if not sustained will one day bring a realization that the silent participation of nature should have been an undying understanding of how humans relate well to its surrounding environment through culture. Plugging in the concept of community based tourism into a community affected by the fast changing development, with sustainable means can prove to be solution to help conserve richness in culture and invoke a sense of responsibility in the minds of young and old for a better present and an assuring future. Relevance of the project Tourism has been used as an alternative means of generating the local and national income of the party involved which leads to empowerment of the society though in some ways it poses negative impacts on the ultimate people residing in the regions under tourism. If handled wisely with an upbeat design approach and strict policy framework looking forward to equal distribution of benefits and conservation of the resources which best represent the society, the project is sure to succeed and be an example for different communities around the globe. The problems are based on the following hypothesis: There is an immense dependence ‘on the forest coverage, an after effect of construction of Khuga dam which greatly affected the villagers’ livelihood and forced them to bluntly depend on the forest area for a major source of generating income for the local economy. The high population density, the migration of the local population to the nearby Lamka town or to other towns, their dependency on the forest coverage and poverty create a need for alternative employment opportunities as well as for sustainable ways of forest resource management. Name of the Student: Lunkim Tingneilam Khongsai_ Reg. No. 1080100048. Batch: 2008 - 2013 Thesis Synopsis - 2013 Aim of the study The study aims at designing a sustainable community-based tourism with the target to conserve culture and environment through community participation in a dam aifected region called Ngoiphai village in Churachandpur District of Manipur. Scope and limitations ‘The proposed community tourism will not only be just another aitemative source of generating income and elevating lifestyle of the villagers, it will also represent a center for learning the culture of the Kuki tribe under which the villagers come. The adoption of transparent spaces, more like a barrier free design will help increase the interaction between the host community and the tourists. Linking the old beliets and lifestyles of the tribe in the present context, which in many ways can help to foster a sense of belongingness with nature, will be the driving source to create a community that unifies culture and environment and the need and importance for conservation of both. Since the tribe has many sub-tribes under it and each with a diverse range of dialect, attires, lifestyles, etc. the design will take the overall general and common factors found in the Kuki tribe to unify the diverse rich culture of each region. Tourism has several types based on the kind of resources the place can offer. The focus will be set on sustainable Community Based Ecotourism (CBET) which is tourism that takes environmental, social, and cultural sustainability into account. It is managed and owned by the community, for the community, with the purpose of enabling visitors to increase their awareness and learn about the community and local ways of life. . Sustainable tourism development meets the needs of the present tourists and host regions while protecting and enhancing the opportunity for the future. It is envisaged as leading to management of all resources in such a way that economic, social and aesthetic needs can be fulfilled, while maintaining cultural integrity, essential ecological processes, biological diversity and life support systems (World Tourism Organisation). The term ‘public space’ is also often misconstrued to mean other things such as ‘gathering place’, which is an element of the laraer concept of social space. The complex will be a democratic space for the city. It will be integrated within the backdrop of a food and craft market to create an ambience reminiscent of traditional Indian bazaars. This is an egalitarian space where people from all sections of the society come to buy crafts, to eat, to relax and to engage in diverse social interaction. A mix of food, music, movies and festivals are envisioned to liven up the space. It will be available to employees, neighbors and visitors. Aim: The idea is to create a social hub in the form of complex designed as a landmark building, which symbolizes a vibrant neighborhood, and provides local residents with a range of community activities, and local businesses with conference and meeting space, an easily accessible, and free from city congestion shopping Centre. Hypothesis: Research will be to create a community hub which provides social, educational and recreational activities in the public realm without taking away open spaces.
