MCC1.OA.1 Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of
adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions,
e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent
the problem.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: What learning standards will be addressed? What will students and
teachers do? How will the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? What audience will use/care about
the multimedia projects students are creating? How broad is this audience? How will student work be assessed and by
whom? Who will provide feedback to students about their work?

I will make a video and post it to our class blog. In my video, I will have a word problem that will require my
students to add and subtract. I will be creating this video before introducing this idea to the class. I want my
students to complete the word problem on their own sheet of paper and bring it with them to class the next day.
Students should use prior knowledge of adding and subtracting to complete this assignment on their own. I am
creating this video as an introduction to students to what we will be working on the next day in class and we will
go over how to do multiple step word problems the next day in class. After we have gone over multistep word
problems in class, I want the students to go home and create their own word problems and try to create their
own video to post to our class blog on how to solve it. Students show use an everyday item (candy, marbles, balls,
etc) to show how to add and subtract. I will comment back on each students video about their word problem. I
will be grading them mostly on the quality of their word problem and how they solved it, not on their video
creativity. The video is just used to keep them engaged in the assignment.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why? Which indicators of
Engaged Learning are strong and why?
This assignment would be a LoTi Level 4 because students are using a digital resource to solve a real world issue using
real numbers they chose on their own.
Student use of digital and/or environmental resources is inherent and motivated by the
drive to answer student-generated questions that dictate the content, process, and/or
products embedded in the learning experience.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how youd minimize risks to
students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy.
Some issues that could arise during this project and using the class blog to post their Videos would be outside
people being able to access my blog, what school we are from, and locating students/teacher/parents names. To
protect my students/parents and to keep this from happening, I will have my blog private to where you have to
have a log in or a specific website URL to access my blog. I will also not post the name of the school or what city
we are in anywhere on my blog and I will not use any of my students names. The students and parents that are
accessing my blog will know all of that information so there is no need for me to post that kind of information on
my blog. If there comes a time that I want to post a students works or use a students name, I will make sure the
parents have filled out the Internet Safety/Acceptable Use Policies paperwork and that they understand all the
laws. I will also make sure my blog is not public, and that you have to have certain information to access it.
