Bernianna

Bernabe Briseno, Elena Hoffman, Sam Merino-Herzog, Dorothy Robertson, Kiara Spann, and Matthew Wurth

Scene synopsis: Bernianna is a self conscious monster that is dissatisfied with her physical
appearance. Gregory hears her complaining and forces her to think about whether or not shed
trade everything for a completely perfect life. Through making a new friend called Ike and doing
some personal reflection of her own, Bernianna comes to the realization that lifes imperfections
are what adds to the beauty of it all.
Philosophy reference: While speaking with Bernianna, Gregory references Robert Nozicks
Experience Machine thought experiment, in which one must question whether they would plug
into a machine that would allow them the opportunity to experience a perfect life full of only
pleasures and pleasures only if it meant they had to give up everything else, including sensations
that only reality can give. Robert Nozick believes that happiness shouldnt be measured by the
total quantity of it, but by the progression of happiness over a lifetime.
Lessons Learned: Whenever Im assigned a group for a project, I usually take the lead. I find
this very stressful at times, but its usually necessary as I see no one else fit enough to be able to
lead the group to success. When we got assigned our group for this project, I noticed that there
was another very strong leader in my group, and for this reason I decided I would step back from
leadership and see what its like to be two steps behind rather than forward while working on a
group project. I found that this was actually very relaxing and stress relieving. Dont get me
wrong--I did contribute a lot and I completed my share of the work. However, I wasnt the go to
person that was aware of everything going on and doing double the work as everyone else. I
liked staying somewhat low-key, and I know that if Im ever assigned another group with
another dominant leader, I might let them take the lead, but do as much as possible to lessen their
load and still stay productive.
