Performing Arts Update

I am so pleased to report that Star of the Sea Primary have had another successful
week participating in the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival. Yesterday two
groups went out to represent our school in different sections of the festival, a group
of year 4 students participating in Christian Dance up at Mercy College Koondoola
and our Year 6 Tin Whistle musicians were at Zenith Music in Claremont.
32 Year 4 students volunteered to make the long journey up to Mercy College to
perform to the wider community the Christian Dance the whole of Year 4 will be
including in their Sacramental Mass later this term. The report received praised
their very prayerful and reflective dance that was well rehearsed.
Congratulations to all students, but also to Miss Regan, Miss Lewis and Miss Crockett
for their hard work in choreographing, costuming and time given to preparing the
students for this performance opportunity.
Chantelle Searston and Amos Tan performed Amazing Grace as a duet on their Tin
Whistles. They received a glowing report with the adjudicator being impressed with
the pairs sound and ability to keep together. Chantelle also treated the audience to
a solo performance of The Irish Rover, receiving more great ratings and comments
on her playing. Thank you to Mrs. Boyle for her continued guidance and support of
our Tin Whistle students.
Congratulations to the 3W Recorder group who have been awarded a certificate of
merit for their performance last week. These awards are given at the adjudicators
discretion, so he must have been impressed! Bravo!
Next week Star of the Sea Choir will be out performing in the Liturgical Choral
section of the festival at St. Benedicts Church in Applecross. They are practicing
hard and I am confident they will do our school proud. Copies of the festival reports
have been hung in the Music Room window for all who wish to read the full
adjudicator comments.
