Lesson Title:
- Traveling West on the Oregon Trail. Social Studies
Purpose:
- Students will participate in identifying key components for the pioneers westward migration.
Materials:
- Power-point, The Nebraska Adventure- Social Studies Text book page124-129, Assessment worksheet.
Introduction:

Today will be reading about the Oregon Trail, getting with our partners to discuss what we went
over with the power-point, and finally filling out a work-sheet about the westward migration.
Lets begin!

Today we will be learning about the westward expansion of the American people.
Who can explain and give me examples of what a missionary is?
What was the objective of the missionaries?
Who helped the people during their travels?
Why is it important that we learn about the expedition to the west?

Closure:
-Who are some of the people who chose to travel to the west? What was the motivation for their
migration?
Evaluation:
- Using the work-sheet we will be able to decipher whether or not the children retained information
about the Oregon Trail by the amount of answers. The children are asked to draw a covered wagon and
list a few items the pioneers may need for their trip.
